I don't read the books, so I don't care if he never finishes them or not.

 

He didn't write this season.  Sure, they can say they went over to the house and talked it over, but he didn't have final say.

Its sharply divided between how invested people are.

 

People who watch it more casually like ohh dragons and zombies like the spectacle of it all.

 

People who are more invested into the world and story from the start are not happy at all. 

 

plus critic scores and online rating scores are down dramatically too. The show never faced a backlash like this before.

most tv critics agree "the golden age of tv" ended a couple years ago. now we're in "peak tv" the shows aren't as good as the top stuff from ten years ago but boy there sure is a lot.

There’s been a few moments throughout the show too where Dany threatens to burn cities to the ground when she gets angry (Quarth, Mereen, etc), and she’s given a speech to the Dothraki about tearing down the stone houses.  It’s even more clear in the book Dany teeters on the edge of madness and kindness in her heart, and when she goes madness a lot of ugly brutality comes out.  Prior to this episode, she lost just about everyone keeping her brutal side in check, had been getting more dismissive of Tyrion’s cautions to not burn everything to the ground and her ex-lover is a political rival who she feels no longer loves her.  I get that she feels like a Targaryen alone in the world and is ready to really embrace the line “Fire and Blood” to make a fearful demonstration and try to force everyone to submit to her, since they weren’t rising up on their own accord.

 

I think the big misstep on the show’s part is they rushed that snap to completely madness (which I think was clearly foreshadowed as being a potential for her) and so it felt jarring.

They really could have had two 10 season episodes for this season and last season. They had enough material for 20 episodes. It feels like they crammed a lot into 13 episodes.

There was a simple fix to this episode...

 

Have the 2nd dragon die in this episode...

 

Like what purpose did it serve in Episode 4 ... Her BFF dies at the end of episode 4 would have already turned her sour. So really the 2nd dragon dying served no purpose there. 

 

To be honest Danny Twist could have easily been made better if she attacked KL with 2 Dragons (making the attack far less absurd). 

The 2nd Dragon dies (making the battle more interesting ) and she hears the bells and she just loses it...

 

Would have been still a bit crazy of a twist but would have made the episode way better.
