The photo of the bar reminds me of The Shinning

@K1stpierre i think the Shining reference was intentional. They are both stories about isolation and how people react to it.

In an interview Jen said it was a deliberate homage.

Spoiler

"an deliberate homage" looks weird.

They certainly are amazing sets, and nothing will convince me this movie existed for any other reason than to have beautiful sets occupied by beautiful people.

If that were the case, don't you think they would have skipped the controversy and just gone for a straight up romance?

So Pass is on 35 with 5.6 Tue.

Am thinking it should average 5 over the next 6 days (Wed-Mon) for 30 more to it's total.

That'll take it to 65.

In 2011 movies at the top added their 7-day cume (Tue-Mon) to the total after 2nd Jan, which in Passenger's case using these calcs will be 5.6 + 30 = 35.6.

That would give it 65 + 35.6 = ~100.6 dom

Either way, at least 90-95 looks likely. Phew.

No, because they know that doesn't sell today. Needed some kind of edge for modern audiences

But that edge wasn't part of the sales pitch. They were actively trying to hide it and selling the movie alternately as a romance and as an action flick, so I think it's safe to say they did believe straightforward romance sells.

I see 5.9 Tue.

  Passengers TGWTDT %
Wed 4,11 5,07 81,07
Thu 3,22 3,31 97,21
Fri 4,50 4,63 97,19
Sat 2,94 2,51 116,95
Sun 7,62 5,63 135,38
5 day 22,38 21,15 105,84
Mon 7,63 6,72 113,47
Tue 5,90 4,58 128,82

Gross to date 35,91 32,45 110,67
Legs (5 day) 1,60 1,53 104,56
Final gross* 115,41 102,5158 112,58
*if Passengers holds the last day's %

Let's be conservative and say Passengers makes 120% of TGWTDT until the first Monday of January. TGWTDT made another 27.5M from Dec 28 to Jan 2. 27.5*1,2=33M for Passengers. That means it will be at 69M, 9M more than TGWTDT. I'd say 90M is locked now. 21M after Jan 2 is easy. 100M can happen unless big theater count drops in the first half in January. Passengers is lucky that AC and WH are even more disappointing box office wise.

"I have to tell you something...there's a reason we woke up early."

Last line of the trailer. Of course they were pitching that "edge" to audiences.
