The studio cut the film to shreds, it was poorly reviewed and it did poorly at the box office.

If a film is bad or the script is bad, it doesn't really matter who is in the movie. Movies are only as good as the script is. Paranoia just didn't get the audience's attention.

Movies with titles as generic as Paranoia will almost always flop. Getaway will suffer the same fate.

BLADE RUNNER wasn't exactly cut to shit. There was this little movie called E.T. and in the summer of '82 everyone was in the mood for happy science-fiction, not darker, bleaker stuff. (THE THING is another example.)

I don't get writing off Liam's career as charity from Chris. They were both moving up the ranks at around the same time. I think I saw Liam in that Nicholas Sparks movie before I saw Chris in anything.

 

Anyway, he and Jen have good chemistry in THG which is more than I can say for her and the little guy.
