I don't see why everyone is freaking the fuck out over JR's box office. So it opens with 18M, which means it'll do something between 40M and 50M. Add to that about 60M-70M more from overseas. The movie cost 60M.

Not quite freaking out over it, but if you look at every other JR film, they made really good dollars in the US.  It just looks like Paramount dropped the ball on this one.

Considering that Jack Reacher, which had a 218m WW gross against a 60m budget and a far more bankable star, is not getting a sequel, making only 120-130m WW pretty much kills the Jack Ryan reboot attempt in the crib.

It's not like they tried.

The silver lining is that maybe 7-10 years from now they'll reboot Ryan again into the serious spy drama of most of the early books.

Stuff like Red Rabbit and Cardinal in the Kremlin could certainly be updated into the contemporary era and as a focus on drama it would control budgeting and make the necessary gross for a follow-up less demanding.

An extremely serious show, hopefully the pace picks up as the first episode was quite slow.

The 2nd episode has Daddario. Doing things. After that you probably won't care about the rest and will repeat that scene a few times

They did. Paramount really didn't care for Jack Ryan, so they just dumped it.

What are the basing the Monday estimates on? It's 10am pst. Are they basing it on past year increases?
