Yeah, I understand a certain amount of sticking by your model, but this is just silly.

The methodology of grouping films by studio is seriously flawed. In terms of scope, and indeed content, Avatar 2 bears pretty much no resemblance to any of the other post-pandemic films released by 20th Century, only one of which even matches the loosest possible description of Avatar 2 as being a mass-market blockbuster. Does the success (or failure) of movies like The Last Duel, West Side Story or The King's Man really have any bearing whatsoever on the success of Avatar 2?

There are many, many other factors that are far better indicators of box office success or failure than a movie's financing studio, which is frankly almost entirely irrelevant insofar as it doesn't influence the truly relevant factors that determine a movie's success (IP, cast, genre, plot, target audience, budget, film quality etc).

You mean an image? When typing a reply you can click on the "Other Media" dropdown option on the lower right of the reply box. Then select "Insert Image from URL". Copy paste the image url into the pop up box and the image should be embedded into the post.

I meant tweets or YouTube videos. When I paste the embed code it only shows the code and not the tweet or YouTube video.

For tweets if you are using the direct link to the tweet then you can copy paste it in the reply box while typing and it should automatically embed the tweet. However if you are using the longer embed code then you cannot directly paste that in your reply. For that you need to click on “source” at top left of reply box and paste the embed code in there and then the tweet should show up.

For youtube, I just tried using both the mobile website link as well as link obtained via the youtube app (share -> copy link) and directly pasted the link in the reply box and it embedded automatically. For this you do not need to go into the “Source” function or the “Link” function at the top of the reply box

Sounds legit thought anyone could write a preview like that. It doesn't commit the leaker to proving a plot point and it's expected that SFX will be amazing. But nevertheless, 4chan has decent track record with leaks. If you know how to filter BS on /tv/ and reddit, you can get good leaks.

@interiorgatordecorator please put anything not officially released under spoiler tags. Some of the content you posted contained plot spoilers

will do

Spoiler

didn't know how to

Heres the guy who claims that the 20 min preview, which we know exists, was shown to a very select few at SXSW (possibly contains spoilers for the first 15-20 min if true):

https://archive.4plebs.org/tv/thread/165203332/

Most interesting claim is that the 3D version doesn't exist yet (still rendering), so the "mind-blowing" footage excecs have seen and commented on is only the 2D cut

Yes that's pretty specific and unusual thing to BS so I'd say this is real. No red flags.

Typical fleak would have Arnie do some really bad fan service that anyone who knows Cameron work should know he would never put in the movie.

Titanic's initial run was $1.85b, $870m more than number 2 at the time, Jurassic Park ($978m). Avatar bested Titanic by almost exactly $1b. Impressive, any way you slice it.

I guess Avatar 2 will do $4b. ;) :D

Jurassic Park's initial theatrical run was $912-$915m (numbers seem to vary), and Titanic's $1.843b did indeed double the record. Box Office Mojo's current figures are inaccurate and they're likely double-counting something in the international gross — here's an archived version of the site from earlier last year with the correct figures.

And yep, Avatar's $2.749b was +49% over Titanic's then-record of $1.843b; the rest of Titanic's earnings came after Avatar's initial theatrical run in Titanic's 2012 3D re-release. As I think has been pointed out in this thread before, when Avatar ended its initial theatrical run with that $2.75b, the highest grossing non-Cameron film was Return of the King with $1.14b, which Avatar grossed over 140% more than.

I don't think there's anything surprising in what he revealed, Landau has already gone on record that an "event" will force the Sully family to move. Now the extent of that event is what might surprise viewers. Complete obliteration of the Omaticaya tribe except for a few survivors??

I do expect the CGI to set a new standard and I'm expecting the movie to look a lot sharper than typical blockbusters of the last 5 years or so which all tend to have the same visual palette. Dark/Darker/Darkest....

what do you guys expect for OW wordwide?

First one did a bit less than 300

Id say 750

but I feel a bit iffy about that number, and believe it could easily be significantly higher or lower (range of 250 million both ways)

How did marketing for the titanic re-release work? By that I mean when did the first trailer drop?

So far out I think it's probably the re-release (there was also talk of avatar 1 legos being announced in april/may, so there's that to consider)

EDIT: titanic re-release announced in may 2011 for release in april 2012, trailer in november 2011
