And it feels like the kind of film European audiences will embrace more readily than the Americans do. The Futurist
Sorry to be that guy but Scorcese got paid zilch for this movie while being paid 10m dollars for Casino commercials in Singapor. Just saying. And he s real short in person.
Macleod
All the critical comments in here show exactly why Scorsese had so much trouble even getting this movie funded. It's not a mainstream-appeal story, but it's one he's apparently been passionate about for many years, so I expect parts of it, even if not the whole, to be an immensely powerful experience, in the same manner as Last Temptation (which is probably one of my favorite films). Would this have more potential with Leo? Most definitely, but I hope people give it a chance. Where is the running time rumor coming from? acab
Looks beautiful to me. Of course it's Scorsese so i'm in no matter what. The depressing story and all that didn't hurt The Revenant or Unbroken or even The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (not a great example i know) much. I don't see it doing blockbuster numbers of course but given the decent budget it could do some fine numbers (50-60m dom).
Jake Gittes
I think it'll be somewhere close to There Will Be Blood, another long and challenging (for the GA) period piece with a lot of critical acclaim that came out in late December and expanded through January on its way to many Oscar nominations but few wins. Religion encapsulated in one visual analogy. I don't know how people can be meh about this. The cinematography looks gorgeous and the imagery is powerful. Scorsese channeling his inner Kurosawa.
