I'm really hoping Apes cracks $9m today. If it does, early WOM is undeniably pretty positive.

 

Tues are traditionally higher because of "cheap Tues" so it could do $10m but then Wed will probably drop it to around $7- 7.5m

I doubt Tuesday will increase to $9 million. That would be around a 10% increase. I see 5% at the very most, and I'm not even counting on it (hoping for 8.5)

Anyone have any idea how many theaters Persecuted will open in this weekend? I'm guessing somewhere in the 300-500 range? Could it go higher, and possibly even get close to 1000 theaters? There's a market for religious-themed movies this year, so 1000 theaters wouldn't be completely unreasonable. Though I've seen no marketing for it, so going that wide would probably be a waste.

3D was a temporary little bandaid on the decline of movie-going, but it's effect has almost completely worn off by 2014.

It was only a disaster in that DreamWorks needed it to be bigger because Guardians/Turbo/Peabody underperformed. Unlike those three, this one won't require a writedown, and if DWA's previous films other than Croods had done better, this wouldn't be AS alarming....wait, WHAT?! The Power Rangers movie is going to involve ORCI?! Talk about "disaster on every conceivable level" right there, I wasn't excited about it before but now I'm even less excited.

Yes Dragon's not really a failure but people had it high on the summer movies list. Does it still have more overseas markets yet to open?

HTTYD2 is probably the biggest disappointment of the summer, but it's still not a disaster. It should get at least over KFP2's total.
