I decided not to see it because skinny Jason Segel

christian bale in the machinist

matthew mcconaughey in dallas buyers club

jason segel in sex tape

that's the "sacrifice for their art" trifecta right there.

That is some increase for Dawn. I cant remember last when a movie increased this much on a July Friday. It is looking at a really good drop. This basically locks up 200M. In fact it should gross 230M as I see 4x legs of its 2nd weekend. So another 100M can happen after this weekend.

I think thursday numbers were low because of the Malaysia Airlines flight. People were interested in what happened.

Maybe. But more than 20% drops in thursday is unusual. That kind of drop is for wednesday. And, I think they care about the situation (míssil ).

Know this sounds like hyperbole, but for me, The Purge OW is biggest surprise of the summer.  Last year, I was NOT surprised when the first opened north of 30.  But no one, and I mean NO ONE I know enjoyed it at all.  Felt like a huge misfire.  Add in that, a virtually unknown cast to the general public, and a summer where most everything has underperformed and this STILL is going to push 30?!  I seriously thought this would struggle to hit 15 over the 3 day.  All of these analysts articles saying 'still that's less than the originals last summer' are bullshit.  This is a huge feat.

Well if you have a heart regardless of what country you live in you are very interested in it. Hundreds have lost their lives and their families are devastated. It's a huge tragedy.

35m for Dawn means that removing previews for both the movies, it's hold is pretty much as good as Rises.

Rise -48% (27.8/53.5)

Dawn -48.9% (35/68.5)

-49% and -51.7% with previews.

The Purge 3 - either July 31 or any date in August (because Assassins Creed is totally moving).

It is happening guys, only an official announcement left.

And most people don't care. Worse things happen on a regular basis to begin with.

Sex Tape bombing this badly is as surprising as The Purge opening over 25M.

Even with 13m Friday, 25m+ is not a lock imo for Purge2.

The first one did 16.77 od and 34.05m ow. Same pattern gives Purge2 26.39m (12.5m Friday gives it 25.38m).

Some sequel front-loading could well reduce that #.

Like I said earlier, the concept is still "interesting" and they made the new film what the first one should have been, which the marketing showed. It's also getting better reviews than the first so people are giving it a chance.

In fact I see it having a better multiplier OW than the first because it's a better film and didn't open as big.

52% drop is great for Apes given the summer and that it's a sequel, it means it should easily stabilize over the coming weeks.

And it's looking more and more like Apes is going to follow Rise (only it'll get strong weekdays as well with slightly smaller friday increases), so a 3.4-3.6 multiplier is looking possible which could get it over 250m and win the summer.
