bapi
How do you know? Have you ever gotten the world wide numbers for SB? They're monstrous as well. I read 97% of SuperBowl audience is from USA. And if 97% = 110 millions... And The Manchester Derby in 2012 had around 650 millions. LOL
theultimatebiu
I agree football is way more popular, I'm not disputing that. But the Super Bowl attracts a lot of viewers in different parts of the world as well. FIFY

The Stingray
Don't know nothing about American Football, but there seems to be an awful lot of downtime. Play 20 seconds, stop, drink some water, have a cup of coffee. Play 20 seconds, stop, huddle. Play, stop, a Katy Perry show, and so on...

Play 20 seconds, stop, drink some water, have a cup of coffee. Play 20 seconds, stop, huddle. Play, stop, a Katy Perry show, and so on... My only issue is there are too many TV timeouts. The 25-second play clock in between plays allows for player substitutions and micromanagement strategy by the coaches and coordinators to adjust to each development. Soccer delegates a lot more of that to the players on the field due to limited substitutions and clock stoppage. Jessie
Yeah american Rugby is pretty damn boring to watch, too many breaks. Saying that this happens with football too (soccer), there are so many players that throw themselves to the floor to give themselves a free kick and a couple of minutes to be catch their breath. American football uses its shirt time outs as an opportunity to show commercials. I think soccer is far more satisfying to watch, it's a lot more skillfully whereas American football seems to be just a rugby rip off yet the players act a lot tougher yet where a shit load of padding for protection lol. Rugby is the real man sport.

Rugby is the real man sport. American rugby is actually more dangerous than proper rugby. it's the same deal w/ bare knuckle boxing and boxing with gloves. It's because people are stupid and think they're fucking invincible when they have padding and shit, so they do more damage.

lab276
I don't understand how American football is so popular given it's stop-start nature. The momentum just gets lost every few seconds.

The momentum just gets lost every few seconds. just like every popular sport in every country it's just because it's ingrained really. maybe it used to be more exciting idk, but as bad as it gets they'll stick with it because it's their thing. same with proper football here. JJ-8
It's even better in Australia. You have soccer, rugby, afl and league. Soccer is probably least popular down under though It might have caught up a little given recent events. Funnily enough the other 3 have had pro players change sports successfully and unsuccessfully over the years. We do love the football down under. The Panda
http://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/american-sniper-texas-gov-declares-768688 Do you feel lucky, punk ? It's funny how the man who killed 150+ people is praised as hero and given a day after he died, while the man who saved 150 million+ people was criminalized and committed suicide due to how horrid his treatment was because of his sexuality. (Ironically both have Oscar nominated movies this year too.) The world we live in is messed up.
