Caesar
Because that is not the case for 100% of the people who didn't see this yet. Who are these people who are watching the other superhero movies but not watching TA2 and how is it managing to make this much on OW when this is occurring? The fact is that there is no fatigue, a percentage of people of don't normally go to see Superhero movies went to see TA because it was the first movie of its kind. Those people did not go to TA2 because it no longer has that first of its kind appeal. You can not be fatigued from a genre of movie when you don't usually watch that genre of movie anyway. That's like saying you watched the first episode of a TV series and stopped after that because you were fatigued. You weren't fatigued, the series just doesn't interest you and so you stopped watching it.

spizzer
NHL/NBA playoffs always happen in May and nobody brings those to affecting a films box office. I've seen NBA games being brought up before, though the high-profile games usually do occur in late May/June. Also, most playoff games are on weekdays, so in the past they've been brought up in daily threads more often than weekends. This series has been pulling 3.5-4M households through 6 games, tonight we're looking at even more than that. Obviously not all of those people will disrupt the BO; some of them may have seen AOU already, some of them might be planning on seeing it tomorrow or during the week instead, and some may never have planned on seeing it. But none of that means that there will be no effect at all, to assume that would be absurd.

Does that not sound at least a little-bit narrow minded?

Does that not sound at least a little-bit narrow minded? We don't know that AoU is declining significantly from TA yet. One day is a bit too early to say that, especially since May is basically open for AoU to develop some legs. Hot Pursuit isn't exactly going to be big competition next week. It is actually less competition than Dark Shadows. Mad Max/Pitch Perfect 2 combo might be brutal, since on his 3rd weekend Avengers only faced Battleship and The Dictator. Memorial Weekend does seem more empty, since Tomorrowland and Poltergeist combined won't make what MIB3 did, so there is space for a terrific hold in there. Also, he cannot go around being pro-gay rights in the Philippines yet (it is progressive, but not ready for so much of an open minded approach). Charism
Geezuz Christ. They should both knock-out each other in first few seconds. EDIT: but after putting more though into it.... Rooting for Philipino guy. Totally. But still - don't care. Why is this fight so big and 'important'? Isn't it just some light weight? Ladybug
I've been hearing talk of both the fight and the Spurs game here at my San Antonio campus. Both are hella big deals here.
