Annihilation | Paramount | Feb 23 2018 | Alex Garland | Natalie Portman | Reviews Embargoed till day of release

Recommended Posts

Reviews are really strong. My big dilemma: do I read the books first or do I watch the film first? I'm assuming the film is based solely on the fist book of the trilogy. I always struggle with this - if I watch the film first, I don't get that magical new book reading experience, but if I read the book first, then sometimes I think what's the point of watching the movie now (but the reviews are strong)...

Peace,

Mike

If people that have read and seen the movie offer a preference, I am interested also to this answer.

The book is fairly different than the movie. Garland takes the broad strokes of characters, setting, and concept and goes his own way with it.

The movie doesn't have my single favorite sequence from the book.

I love both.

Dear Paramount,

This movie looked off the charts fantastic when you presented it at CinemaCon in March 2017.

Since that time you fumbled around like a bunch of fucking morons and did literally everything you could to tank the reputation of this great film.

You couldn't even get the embargo date moved up when you knew you had a giant critical hit on your hands.

Please fire your entire management and marketing staff.

Sincerely,

Everyone

Ugh, yeah. There's nothing that makes me want to hate a movie like people desperately demanding that I love it.

For those who watched the movie, is the plot complex and hard to follow?

I've seen many reviews and most of them are saying this movie isn't for everyone and the third act is really nuts. Possible F CinemaScore?

The plot is both absurdly straightforward and hallucinatorily opaque. The third act is gonzo and nuts and no question some people will hate and others will be all WTF. For me, the third act made the movie.

That wasn't my point. They keep going on about seeing it on the biggest/loudest screen possible when that isn't an option for anyone who isn't an American

I don't really have an issue with people being passionate about it. Haven't really seen many reviews demanding that people love it.
