Honestly, fandom in general is toxic. Y'all suck.

I'm with Barnack it's just smoke and mirrors to blind you from Solo doing so bad.

Fandom is just fandom, it's neither good nor bad to be passionate about something. But add a hefty dose of 🖕 from the Creators to the Fans is a recipe for toxicity. As some have said (like @IronJimbo) Disney may or may not be doing this as smoke and mirrors to distract from Solo bombing, but it's a laughable business decision either way. They may be earning goodboy points from checkmarked Twitter stans who thrive off of manufactured outrage, but Solo's BO results speak for itself. What I find fascinating is they aren't about-facing after Solo, they're doubling, tripling, quadrupling-down. We're witnessing history, this will be taught in MBA classes in how-not-to-manage-a-brand 101. The biggest, most beloved franchise of all time losing most of its business value in 6 months.

On the principle that yt has never challenged me (or any viewer really), i don't see how they can be so influential when all the recommendations do is reinforce the existing dominant opinions of each viewer.

You want the SW franchise to fail because you want Avatar to take it's place.

And that is what I don't like about the Cameron fanboys here; They run down everything that is NOT a Cameron film.

What ?

Good question. Nothing you h ave  posted seems to indicate you agree with Jimbo's blind worship of Cameron and his hatred for any franchise that dares to compete with the Holy and Sacred Avatar.

Some people just don't get it. Lucasfilm people aren't painting every Star Wars fan with the same brush. What they re standing up to is the really negative, mean parts of the fan base. The ones who are unnecessarily harassing those involved with TLJ or chasing Kelly Marie Tran right off social media.

Some of you can say "Well that's just the internet, deal with it" but that's just letting rotten people off the hook. Why should they just deal with it? Let them stand up for themselves. If Lucasfilm is knowingly putting ethics before $$$ in letting certain people speak out (ie. John Boyega), then you have to hand it to them. They're looking out for their people. Say what you want about the movies or characters or whatever, but Tran, Johnson etc. do NOT deserve to be treated how they are (again, not talking about basic criticism here) and all these "fans" SHOULD be held accountable.

1000% agree.

Irony is, of course, that the people who are blindly defending anything that fans do end up making fandom as a whole look a lot worse.

It's this kind of behavior that makes a lot of reasonable people roll their eyes when the word "fan" is mentioned, fairly or unfairly.

And Johnson and Beyoga have been very targeted in who they criticize. They are not blasting fans blindly, just the jerks.ran and Beoga

It would be like a MCU fanboy running down every movie that dares to compete with the Holy MCU (while complaining about "fanboys" all the time for inexplicable reasons).

Racism is terrible, sexism is terrible, and I'd be happy to throw a stone (metaphorically) at anyone who attacked Tran personally. Fuck those people.

Ok. Obvious stuff out of the way? Great.

Recently an Overwatch female character was launched that was super overpowered. There was a ruckus online and a lot of fans protesting. What did Blizzard do? Did they say "oh you Overwatch fans just hate strong women?" Did they carefully target BasementDweller69 on Twitter with his 41 followers and call him a white supremacist bigot? No, they nerfed the overpowered character and balanced the gameplay and engaged the majority of fans and said "we'll fix it, we're sorry, we won't let this happen again. The toxicity died quickly. That's good business. That's good box office.

To compete you must have at least close to comparable skill. The only person Jim is competing with is himself as evidenced by everyone not being able to even get close to him for over twenty years. :redcapes:

@Pure Spirit is right. Lucasfilms' approach was ridiculous, and they should be partly held accountable for the escalation.

If they didn't deflect to all criticism from the start, the feud with the fanbase wouldn't have gone this way.

On top of that, they fail to address the fact that a huge chunk of those who harassed Tran are Asian, which directly proves that their political correctness failed hard.

No, that's called game balance and it has fuck-all to do with filmmaking or the box office

Keeping your fans happy has fuck-all to do with your franchise making money? :WHATanabe:
