FANTASTIC BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM | 580.0 M overseas ● 814.0 M worldwide

Looks like 75 DOM + 143 OS for a 218 WW OW ..... not really good for a 5-film planned series

even if it hits 2.75x DOM multiplier with consistent 34:66 split, it will only get to 206 DOM and 607 WW

30:70 split brings WW to 687.5 WW (which will be beaten by Doctor Strange anyway)

For the real ww OW you have to wait till it has opened in all to be released countries, all OWs will get added up.

Screendaily

Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them delivered a magic estimated $143.3m overseas debut from its 63 markets.

The spin-off achieved the biggest openings of the Harry Potter franchise to date in 11 markets, including South Korea ($14.1m), Russia ($9.8m) and Brazil ($6.4m), and enjoyed the biggest opening weekend of 2016 in Germany ($9.9m) and Italy ($6.6m), among others.

Its biggest opening came in the UK with a whopping $18.3m, putting it neck-and-neck with Batman v Superman for the biggest opening of the year to date and outpacing every Harry Potter film except both parts of Deathly Hallows.

Other highlights included a $7.3m bow in Australia, $5.8m in Mexico and $4.5m in Spain, with openings in China and Japan to come next weekend.

At 665 IMAX screens worldwide, Fantastic Beasts conjured up $15m with $7m coming from 276 IMAX screens overseas. Among its records, it posted the biggest IMAX opening of the Harry Potter franchise in 33 markets, including the UK, South Korea and Germany

Huge. 500 OS looks like a given to me.

Yeah, I was thinking about this. With a 2.5x from the current markets you get 360m. That is a very low multi considering most OS markets have way better legs than HP does in the US. So that leaves China, Japan, Finland, plus a few smaller markets to make 140.

But really, I don't see how it only gets a 2.5x multi from the current markets with the WOM it has. A 3x multi would take it to 430m. Let's say a 2.8x multi, which would still take it over 400m. Now, the China presales are already well ahead of DS. lt's not much of a stretch to think it does 100m there. Let's say it follows Goblet of Fire DOM as it did until now and ends up around 215m. So it would need about 85m from Japan, Finland and the other territories to make 800m WW. If the current territories hit a 3x multi, it would only need 50m or so from Japan and co.

Either way, 700m will happen. It think it ends up around PoA WW.

Haha, that is oddly specific, I think Germany has something like five IMAX theaters in total :D

All in all a solid start in Germany, should be slightly above half of the latest HP openings. In terms of admissions it should be close to Finding Dory (875k), but only with the additional day of previews. The weekend alone should slot in at no.2 for the year, for now.

ANTASTIC BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM makes a huge $143.3M overseas opening weekend, for a $218.3M global total. s

Kinda reminds me of the Nikki Finke article on Pirates of the Caribbean 4: 'Pirates Opening was Yo-Ho-Hum but Not Overseas' (although we need to see next week's openers to get the full picture)

I agree with that $500m target. 140-150 from China+Japan should be attainable (just let's hope there is not a disaster in Japan like happened with Hobbit). And that asuming a x2.5 multiplier from current markets. Who knows if WOM can be even better and it can go beyond that mark. Pretty solid result, IMO.
