What are we expecting for Cloverfield next week? Will it surpass the first movie?  Od7Xvlp.gif

I doubt it, buzz is solid but nothing insane. And it'll drop like a rock after the OW. Doesn't really matter though, it'll make at least double on OW than what it would have if they didn't stick the Cloverfield name on it.

Poor Mary Elizabeth, mah girl deserves a hit so bad, at least the movie seems to be amazing

They'd both be under pressure regardless. A sequel to Pixar's most successful film and a large-scale Disney fairy tale musical. Only difference now is Disney has some insurance.

Pixar likely under more pressure coming off their first flop. I'm sure Dory will be fine but you have to wonder if another flop will give Disney ammunition to make cuts in budgets or people.

Thing about Lego was that it had an extremely good second weekend hold because it was President Day and Valentine's fell on that Friday, which then allowed it to do $30m+ on it's third week.

Zootopia's drops would have to average about 30% to keep it above $35m.

Even if it was a smaller 2nd weekend it would have done a $30m+ amount in the next weekend but the weekend-weekend drop would have been even smaller. If anything the 2nd weekend being a holiday weekend attracted demand that would have otherwise been fulfilled later.

My Cloverfield prediction: 26/60. If the movie is really good I think it can hit 70M. The lack of connections are going to fuck it.

It's going to have a sub-2 multiplier, no way around. Worse than if they had sold it as an original monster movie with no connections to another film.

That'll be more of an issue when Coco comes around. Of course, Dory flopping would be pretty disastrous but I don't think there's any chance of that happening

I think that a sane prediction for Cloverfield would be 30M. I wanted to say 40M, which would put it on par w/the original's OW, but I really do think that it's gonna sink like Titanic on Sunday should the word spread out the worst imaginable regarding the movie's connection w/its title. If it doesn't, and if outta nowhere JJ and Trackenberg surprise us all, it could skyrocket. But still, 30M seems plausible. Shame if it does plummet, it seems like a legit great movie, the combo of Mary Liz + Goodman is badass and it has writing credits by one Damien motherfuckin' Chazelle.

Either way, it won't beat Zootopia, but we'll see how high it can get.

So it only dropped from $40 million to $34 million in its fourth weekend internationally or am I reading these numbers wrong? And it still hasn't been released in Japan. $750m is still in the cards, I think.

And Zootopia is going to be huge. I saw it last night and there's no way it doesn't earn a ton of money...like $300m+ DOM.
