I think the anti-consumerism message resonates for a valid reason.

 

It's expressed in a very charismatic way and there's some truth to it. 

 

The problem is the fans in general just mimic the themes without questioning and debating them critically.

The Wolf of Wall Street is a crap movie.

I like it, but you could easily cut an hour out of that movie and still have a coherent story. In fact, it might be more coherent.
