Fox’s Independence Day: Resurgence is likely to post a Friday between $18M-$19M for a weekend in the high $40M range at 4,068 venues.

Sony’s The Shallows is look quite healthy with an estimated $5M Friday on its way to a projected $13M at 2,962 locations. STX Entertainment’s Free State of Jones is limping at this point in time with a projected $3M for Friday and an $8M FSS opening at 2,815 sites. Broad Green/Amazon’s Neon Demon isn’t looking so hot with a $500K Friday and $1.6M-$1.8M opening. These figures could swing up or down by nightfall.

 

 

hope these numbers go up. That Dory fall seems kind of harsh

Deadline doesnt know how to do weekend multipliers even if they have been reporting on Box Office for over a decade. If they dont give a Friday number their weekend estimate is useless.

I'd take that number for Dory with a grain of salt, Deadline didn't release the Friday estimate.

Their friday numbers during mid-day are often off by a lot, and Deadline math is a running joke around here.

Deadline probably doesn't want to change their prediction / apparent reports, and they have no really numbers to go by either. Dory is most certainly increasing on Friday, it's nearly nigh impossible for a film not to, unless it's a poorly received horror film or something.

 

I also remember when Deadline ignorantly held on to the idea of Inside Out only opening with around 60m for so long, because they refused to go by anything other then tracking numbers. I suspect something similar will probably happen with Dory.
