Deadline's article title is the weirdest instance of spin ever

‘Star Trek Beyond’ Launches To $59.6M, Third Best Debut In The Series

This is right up there with this gem from Allegiant 's OW

It posted the third highest preview number in the series.

Both these series have 3 movies in them.

Except there are many more Star Trek movies.

Well you can argue for Trek that there's also the TOS movies and the TNG movies.

Not in this series. This is brand new with no continuity to the previous versions of Star Trek. It's like comparing Connery Bondbox office to Brosnan Bond.

Uh, what? This is in the same universe as the originals, just different timelines.

Wow, Ghostbusters overseas numbers are terrible!

Will this movie even make 100 million overseas? lol

Not really, it only had 5 very small markets this weekend.

I think it'll go to $130-140m internationally.

Star Trek Beyond might be a money loser. Fuck!

It's going to need 370M to break even (double the budget), I imagine it still makes some money but definitely isn't getting Paramount out of their hole.

My forecast for Jason Bourne:

Jul 29: 45M (18M weekdays, 63M Total)

Aug 5: 20.2M (8.8M weekdays, 92M Total)

Aug 12: 11.1M (4.8M weekdays, 107.9M Total)

Aug 19: 6.1M (2.6M weekdays, 116.6M Total)

Aug 26: 3.7M (1.7M weekdays, 122M Total)

Sep 2: 2.4M (1.4M weekdays, 125.8M Total)

Sep 9: 1M (600k weekdays, 127.4M Total)

Final Total: 131M (2.91x)

This is assuming the movie is mediocre; if it's actually good/decent the first two weeks stay the same (Maybe OW hits 50M) but the drops are better for the rest of its run.
