I'm not talking about trending, albeit I do think it was trending hours ago. I'm talking it obviously struck a nerve with the GA.

Screen capped minutes ago and it has gone like this every single time I look to it.

And I think everyone here gets it, man. You hate the film. You want it to fail. No judgement on that, a lot people hate it and I definitely can see why. But you don't need to attack every single thing anyone says here as a counter argument. It looks pushy. I say this because I think you're a valuable poster here and I know you can do better than this.

Sorry I wasn't trying to attack you or the film (like those comments were outside of my views on this movie). I was trying to look up what you were talking about because I was honestly curious to see what the tag would say.

I didn't see it trending and the only thing on Facebook trending on #SuicideSquad was in reference to the deleted scenes. I was just stating what I was seeing (but I use my Twitter location as NYC, so it might be different where you are).

Sorry if it came across that way dude. Regarding the trend, I think people would be less fond of the relationship had the deleted scenes stayed in that truly showed the Joker being abusive.

You really need to start using "All Tweets". Refresh your Twitter and you'll get live tweets from actual people, not the top story ones.

Yeah I did! Yeah I know, top takes too long lol. I always go to live tweets to get way more. I thought it was a tag so I tried searching JokerHarler, HarleyJokey and then just Harley. I saw some of the tweets when I searched her name but none of them had an actual tag so I was confused that I wasn't seeing the actual trend.

You really need to revise your definition of "going viral."

Yeah sorry, that's why I was confused. Usually going viral to me means that some hashtag is trending or there would be a lot of articles from sites like Buzzfeed saying "People are really obsessed with Harley Quinn And The Jokers Relationship in Suicide Squad" under the #SuicideSquad trending tag on Facebook. Those articles usually include a bunch of sample tweets, etc....but when I was on Buzzfeeds Facebook page earlier, I didn't see anything.

That might have changed now because the only thing I saw earlier was articles relating to the deleted scenes and the box office.

No need to apologize, man. And I should have explained better that I wasn't really talking about a tag, but actual conversation about Harley and Joker.

Spoiler

And I agree, I do think the general audience wouldn't like Joker's even more abusive behavior towards Harley, and that's precisely why I like this take on them, it humanizes the Joker while still making him an abusive psychopath, or is him getting "humanized" because Harleen is effectively curing him? Who is playing who here? I think this particular dynamic worked surprisingly well to me. For Harley as a character to shine, for her own existence to justify itself as something more than her as just another victim to Joker, Joker needs to become more "human". Some people are mistakingly saying that they romanticizing Joker and Harley sets a bad example, and while I don't think that neither characters are role models for anything but psychopaths, I'm actually surprised how the film made out of the relationship dynamics of the two, and that goes with or without the deleted scenes. What the deleted scenes would do is to make this even more controversial, but while Harley is Joker's toy, Joker is Harley's puppy. And I feel THAT made for a whole new layer to Joker and an actual agency to Harley that just isn't present in either iteration of her outside this film. Who is playing who or both of them are playing each other? Is Joker trying to save her with his madness and live for him or is Doctor Harleen successfully humanized the Joker? They nailed their relationship, and actually made both of them more three dimensional than people are actually giving them credit for.

Really rooting for SS to do 300m dom. Will help the 10 films above 300M+ dom club.

Hope it stays above 133 with the actuals.

We have 8 300 movies locked - DP, ZOOTP, BVS, TJB, CW, FD, PETS, ROGUE ONE

SS could make it #9.

MOANA probably has the best shot at 300M followed by FB.

MOANA will probably make it. It's the first Disney animated musical since FROZEN, so audiences will be excited. Miranda could get Oscar buzz and the Rock is one of the few draws in Hollywood these days.

Thanks, mate. I'm pretty sure I'll enjoy the intensity.

Anyhow, based on the OW, what does everyone think Monday's total will be?

But Moana just looks so unappealing.

IMO.

If you find it so unappealing, then that's a pretty good sign that the general audience is going to find it appealing.

Considering your hard-ons are reserved almost solely for horror films and blockbusters with a leading lady.

I have no idea, especially as some seem to think the estimates might be off.

At BOM (Boxofficemojo.com) they started this comparison, but be aware:

the 1st Monday for X-Men Apocalypse was Memorial Day, all of those aren't during summer holiday. I do not know how it is in your country, but here a lot are away, make trips, do sport,... spend time in the open during that time.

Guardians of the Galaxy (GotG) = similar release date, was then also a record breaker for August, but IMHO more of a space opera,.... not 100% compareable to how SS seems to be, had:

Monday

August is IMHO a bit difficult to predict for the big earners, as there are no real compareable numbers there to compare too

If you click on the titles you can look up what their Mondays were (percentages...) but i think big earners have other rules, summer has other rythm than e.g. June, how many co big eaarners, for which age / interests...

wow, not even a hint for Sunday yet?

that's a bummer

I'm guessing the estimate is pretty spot on. I'd assume if it was higher or lower, then RTH or Nilephelan would have come in and told us.

Critics and WOM might be different.

There are cases and cases. Ghostbusters and Star Trek Beyond are examples. They both had amazing reviews, but weak legs because WOW hasn't been strong.

You might blame it on the marketing or bad trailers, but WOM isn't there for these movies. No matter how good or bad they are. You have 5 Transformers movies now, and they keep making money, despite being badly reviewed. However, if they're making money, that means lots of people are watching it, which means there's some WOW going on here, which is better than critics views about the movie.

Bad movies may also end up having demand and WOM. That's why you'll get a 6th Resident Evil movie, despite every previous movie getting horrible reviews. General audience liked what they saw.

Maybe it depends on the movies that are being released. I mean, do people expect critics to like Robots blowing up each other? Do people expect critics to like a hero blowing up zombies heads and kicking Umbrella's ass in 3D? Maybe that's why many movies perform well despite critics. I think SS is another good example.

I loved SS, but critics hated it, which isn't a problem at all. Critics are also part of the public and they have every right to show their dislike towards a movie.

I'm surprised that I loved a ton of rotten movies, without even knowing they were rotten at all. lol.

Firstly, Ghostbusters was favorably reviewed, but the critics' assessment was not amazing. it did not make it to 65 on metacritic or 80 on RT.

I think a 20% decline for Sunday is realistic. It's even in the high side for past August openers.

It has a good chance at 300

Pets has a good chance at passing IO

Bad Moms has a shot at 100

Ghostbusters could miss 125

Lights out is doing well.
