Can't wait for all of the over-predictions for The Magnificent Seven coming this time next month.

I think it'll break the September record for sure, not sure how much but over $50m OW wouldn't surprise me

I think the movie looks awful, but it's always worth trying to put yourself in the mindset of when the movie was greenlit (you've got a script and some talent attached), as opposed to now, when there's a trailer, tracking, etc.

I just figured if a studio casted well liked actors the movie will have a better chance at success.

I feel like there's always going to be a limit as to how well a western (even one that looks as stylized and inauthentic to the time period as M7 looks to be) can do at the box office. Anything over $100M total is automatically a win.

The budget is $107m so they need this one to be bigger than that.

I don't think it's a coincidence though that all of the modern day break out westerns have had an awards push.

Right now, the RT/Flixter want to see numbers are looking too low for a huge opening.

When WB's JUNGLE BOOK comes out.

RT Update: Kubo and the Two Strings becomes the most critically acclaimed wide-release film of the summer, and the only movie to have an average rating of 8.0+.

Kubo's advertising has been interesting. I saw a trailer spot for it on Facebook that directly advertised it's "certified fresh" RT score. And there was a radio ad that said something like, "In a summer of remakes and sequels, come see the most original film of the summer..." etc. Studios seem to be clearly cognizant of context and the fact that this summer has been a relative dud critically and a sequel/remake overload.

Peace,

Mike

Who back in January ever would have guessed Jungle Book would be a bigger worldwide hit than Finding Dory?

I didn't think so. Jungle book is a overrated movie .The acting from the main character was weak along with the story.

I feel a lot of People are so into the CGI their fooled into thinking it's a good movie.

I was reading through IMDb trivia for The Hangover and apparently Lindsay Lohan turned down a part cause she thought it would bomb. lol

So she turned down The Hangover but did Scary Movie 5 ? I know her career was even more rock bottom by that time but still.
