By time SS finishes it's domestic  run it will have a Better Multiplier than Civil War .

Even if it's a .1 difference.

The first week of may is Marvel's sweet spot. They put thier flims in that spot because they feel it's where they are gonna make the most money.

Using the "School day" excuse isn't gonna fly.they have gotten better multipliers from the same date before.

With all the high ratings CW have gotten there's no way it's suppose to be having the same multiplier has a flim that's considered bashed by CRITICS.

If we are gonna give CW the "Not summer release" excuse then we also should for BVS (3/26) right?

Well indeed, as I just said, I'm sure BvS would have made more if it had been a summer release. But regardless, it obviously had pretty dreadful WOM.

And yeah, don't mean to be making excuses for CW. As I said, it had rather weak legs. But I'm just making comparisons that I feel are apt. The summer weekdays SS enjoyed were definitely a factor in pushing it a bit further.

CW's legs are nothing to brag about. Saying SS will about about match its legs (and you're right, should be in the ballpark), while opening almost $50 million lower and with the benefit of summer and younger crowds, doesn't seem too to be much to crow about either to me.

I guess it is a small victory that it beat certain expectations and it's legs were better than awful. And again, I'm talking legs and longevity. I'm not gonna talk smack about its overall total.

Civil War had poor legs but comparing it to SS makes no sense because one is a threequel while the other is a non-sequel. If you want to have some perspective on SS legs, then compare it to other Superhero non sequels.

We are not comparing the two.We are trying to get those who have claimed SS legs was bad to see that the highly praised CW didn't do much better.

It really doesn't matter which is a sequel or non-sequel they both are in the same genre.

Yeah this Thursday is really good and next one before LD will be even better :)

btw, SLOP should do about 3.5 taking it to 353 I think.

1.4-1.6 over next Mon-Thu for ~354.5 and 358.5-359 by LD (4-4.5 over the 4-day; +14-28.5% from 3.5 this weekend).

That will leave it 9-9.5 away from DM2.

It showed up on his 2nd weekend.

Going by your way of thinking Civil War isnt a well liked movie.

I mean it clearly wasn't! The marketplace chewed it up and spit it out pretty quickly. I'm not playing bias here but look at Guardians two years ago and look at this one. Night and day in staying power.

Let's put our critical-thinking caps on everybody. Civil War and Suicide Squad were success with good legs. The multiplier sucks? Get over it. Both were front-loaded for a reason...the giant friggin fan base that were frothing at their mouths to see it opening weekend. We've seen this with franchises before, and it's going to become more prevalent. Super-hero movies draw in their main audience right from the start. We can't say Suicide Squad should act like other original IPs because the fans treated it like a sequel or remake. Just look at the trailer views topping 69 million. I don't think you can call a 133m opening some new pad that people just became really hyped about. More likely it indicates the large built-in fan base. Imagine if Suicide Squad had the normal OW of a new property? Wouldn't we expect something more like 75m? Then when it hit 300m+ we'd say it had great legs. Instead, it was frontloaded, because that's what these movies do. Civil War had a giant 190m and showed growth from the previous Cap film, and even if you want to classify it as the third Avenger film, it still crossed over 400m and was a giant success. Can't we just admit, both studio franchises can coexist and succeed at the same time? Whether one does better or not (and obviously Marvel is doing better), doesn't mater as long as both are pleasing a large audience? If these two movies are indicative of bad super-hero performances, then every other genre or intellectual property is eager to achieve such failure.

I'm happy that SS is doing decently, even though it's a merely okay movie; the actors and director put a lot of effort into it and deserve to be rewarded with an opportunity to create a sequel. Its mediocrity is due to WB's interference, so I don't think that the actual talent behind it shouldn't be given another chance to strut their stuff.

But that means nothing.  This one opened 50% higher than GOTG and it will probably finish with 15-18 million of it.  One had more up front demand but the final tally is going to be pretty close.  Staying power or good legs doesn't necessarily mean much.  Some films have more up front demand than others.
