Weekend Actuals (Page 29): Split 40M | xXx 20.1M | Hidden Figures 15.7M | Sing 9M | La La Land 8.4M | The Founder 3.4M

Both Split and XXX stayed over $40m and $20m. Nice. Coulda sworn Split would've dropped down in the $39m range.

With regards to boxoffice.com, this site has some of the most accurate predictions I've seen, and from what I can tell we're generally just as good as the trades at predicting when a movie is going to be a hit. Say what you will about Split's overperformance, but I didn't see any other sites predicting $30m+ besides us.

I meant to tell you guys I was heading to Split, I had to see it after that opening number. The movie itself was alright, but the end...horry sheet.

Also the audience seemed to think it was just alright/good. Sorry @WrathOfHan. Everyone else was a senior. The guy next to us said "i'd give that a C-, don't cha think?" and some other people kind of had sour faces. Anecdotal though, I still think the WOM will be good.

I'm completely shocked at that Split OW, I knew it had tons of buzz, but I never expected this, and I'm seeing a lot of praise for it on Twitter, the last horror movie that had such an enthusiastic reception from mainstream audiences was Don't Breathe, I wouldn't rule out a 3.0x multiple for this, especially with that 82% audience score, WOM is going to be massive.

Yeah, but RO's been dropping more and more compared to TFA each and every week since the end of the holidays. It started with 58% of TFA's weeklies and is now down to 49% or even less depending on actuals. With very good next few weekends (something like $4.5m, $3.5m, $2.5m, $1.5, $1m and $2m for the last several WE totals gives it $15 million total for the weekends. Add to that $8 million total from week days and you get to $535m-ish). Would be great to pass $540m, and it still has and outside shot, IMO...

Actuals are in and it finished at 51% of TFA this weekend, same as last weekend. If that trend continues, it will finish around $541m.

M.Night's comeback with Split makes me wonder if any other actor or director should make a comeback. After watching The Departed again, I would like Jack Nicholson return to acting.

It did 53% of TFA the week before (and 58% the week before that), so it's probably trending to do less than 51% of TFA for the rest of its run. Still think it's heading towards $535m (give or take a million).

I'm sure if Marty or another director offer him a great role, he'll jump at it. It'll be a huge shame if his last film is How Do You Know.

Ugh, that's true. Watched it on a plane once and couldn't get through 5 minutes. A 120m budget!!
