Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 | May 5, 2023 | The 9th most profitable film of 2023

I'm fine with Gunn being fired. Whatever. These guys are all interchangeable, there's probably some rando directing a Pirahna sequel for Cinemax they could throw in there. And his tweets were dumb. But please, please, PLEASE do not pretend this has anything to do with political correctness. Please. It has nothing to do with people being "too PC" or "political correctness run amok" (lmao lordmandeep posting this btw). This is 100 percent, no doubt, a very conservative company (Disney) capitulating to a conservative group in order to maintain conservative favortism with a conservative President on their business deal with the most prominent conservative media company on earth. That's it. Nothing to do with PC at all.

South Park also ages like milk.

The internet-money episode parodying the 2009 Writers Strike (when writers wanted money from internet downloads and streams), is probably the best example.

South Park has always been hit or miss.  Their best episodes are still great like Kanye/Fishsticks, Make Love Not Warcraft, Passion of the Jew, Trapped in the Closet, or hell most of season 19.

It's a great thing Deadpool 2 was a critically panned box office bomb. Imagine the reaction if people actually watched that movie and saw how many jokes about pedophilia/rape were in it.

You still think Deadpool will be R-rated....This same family friendly Disney......:redcapes:

The zero tolerance policy on comments that has been promoted has nothing to do with it? I doubt it.

Literally 0 percent. It's all about politics and currying favor with the right

Frankly, I might not have been so conflicted about Gunn being fired if it wasn’t for the fact that Mike Cernovich helped make it happen. Why in God’s name is that scumbag allowed to influence anything?

Because media normalized the scumbags, at least in the US.

As for James Gunn I was sad to learn this, GOTG3 won't be the same without him...but at the same time you just don't laugh about pedophilia, it's crossing the red line and not being mature enough is no excuse for this: I know that Teen Me would never have dared joking about something like that, I don't see why someone sound of mind would do that.

It's definitely a new era: you must be careful about what you say on social networks, it's not a private space.

Yeah, Gunn was involved with Troma. Yeah, he wrote objectionable and more edgier/darker material. But there's a difference between that and what those. . . . tweets. . . .were, even if he did apologize for them

Personally, I don't know how to feel.

Can someone explain the "joke" here?

One would expect some people to find the video in question funny (and everyone posting is post / commenting about it without providing the actual video in question do look very questionable imo using the word hosted for what seem a simple youtube link is also used to make it sound like something that it was not all look like an alt-right hit job coverage clearly to make a simple mainstream youtube video sound like some illegal porn that needed to be hosted on a personal website, why not provide the context as best has possible)  :

There is something into a large group of young woman singing those lyrics in that almost religious choral genre, that would push someone trying to make a joke about it, by pushing how more inappropriate the response to the already inappropriate song can be.

I think the joke attempt is in the large theme of creating a difference between the normal/accepted/expected response to something and the one delivered, some brain will find ironies and fun in that gap and bigger and more unacceptable that gap the more fun.

Do you think he literally came in is face watching this (a video without anything sexual/sexy in it ?) and went on a public platform to talk about it ?

Will have to say among the contrasting blocs/viewpoints in/on this thread the one that seems to be pushing a "Wow, it sure is a shame folks can't say horrible shitty stuff in public anymore lest they maaaaaaaaaaybe face the consequences for it" sure is an interesting viewpoint to push.

Like, maybe take a step back and see exactly what you're going for here?  We don't really need more excuses for the internet to be more toxic.

Okay, sure.  Punishment fit the crime.  Granted. Not arguing about that in this post. Nor the persons behind this nor the age of the tweets angle.

But, I dunno.  Fighting for the right to make dozens of pedo and rape jokes on Twitter might not be the hill I'd personally want to die on.

Just sayin'

(This might in fact be a main reason I don't have a dog in this fight, beyond the fact that it is exceedingly upsetting that someone like Cernovich is getting emboldened by this sort of shit)

I’m of the opinion that it’s a little ridiculous   that the people who are “outing” Gunn for something he tweeted a decade ago defend people like Roy Moore and Trump on the basis of “That was years ago!  They’ve changed since then!”

And Roy Moore and Trump actually committed actions, not just inappropriate tweets.

Pretty easy? Go ahead. @Porthos

You must have missed the bit where I said, and repeatedly have, that I personally am not defending Gunn in this thread.

It's a fast moving thread, so I don't blame you.

(though it was in the post of mine you just quoted.  Probably an honest oversight, however)

James Cameron definitely has some shit waiting to be exposed. @IronJimbo, are you ready for the downfall of your king?

Firstly Jim is a wonderful man loved by his peers. See all the actors coming back for me (accept the abyss lol). The point is Jim has super low chance of a scandal.

Secondly Jim could do worse shit than Gunn and get away with it. Jim is worth billie apun billie to them, while gunn is worth zero as you can just replace directors for a cash it in marvel film

Also Jim OWNS avatar, if disney wont distribute someone else will
