Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 | May 5, 2023 | The 9th most profitable film of 2023

Marvel and Disney are taking a measured approach in their search for a filmmaker (one source says that Thor: Ragnarok director Taika Waititi recently had a meeting with Marvel but it is unclear what project was discussed) and with good reason.

Taika will be busy between Guardians 3, Ant-Man 3 and Strange 2

A lot of people are gonna be out of work too.

They were gonna be regardless without a new director.  At least this way they can find a new gig in the meantime.

Damn what a disaster this turned into. Disney done fucked up hard here.

You also gotta wonder how this affects Marvel's long term plans for the cosmic side of the MCU (which Gunn was gonna have a major role in), and I believe Gunn said Vol 3 would set up the next 10 or so years of MCU films.

Meh. Now tht they have the X men and Fantastic Four and others another Guardians of the Galaxy doesn’t need to be a priority and it will still happen eventually

It's a diaster of their own making. They'll make it eventually but they'll have trouble finding the right director. Many will turn down the job based on the principle of the matter. I have no ill will towards anyone who does take the job though, especially if it's a non white male director.

Disney and Marvel will get into an ego war. Marvel decides to break away and work with WB. Marvel DC unite.

After acquiring Xmen and F4, Marvel can churn out 4-5 movies per year and make close to what the entire WB studio makes.

Marvel will be fine, they already have the perfect excuse to keep characters on ice after A3, and they have other ways to continue the Marvel cosmic universe. People are really exaggerating the importance of GotG to Marvel. Everyone is acting like all the talent has fled the Marvel studio machine or it was all locked up in Bautista and Gunn. Don't lose your minds, Gunn was a fun director but no James Cameron. Additionally, they have enough money banked up they can get whoever they want if they want them badly enough (except James Cameron :) )
