I don't even think that's likely as Suicide Squad doesn't even come out til summer 2021 (unless they move it up, which I suppose is possible if filming this fall) but man, it could be 2023 at the earliest.  That's a long time for Disney to wait on that franchise.  Guess when have so many options in MCU have time.

I think 2022 is likely just because I think The Suicide Squad will be in the can by the time Gunn is ready to direct SS2.

I knew the firing was overreaction and Disney did not want anything to derail the Fox merger,  but that's basically done now

My guess is this releases May 2023. Gunn won't be allowed to start filming on this till after Squad 2 releases because directors will be required to be exclusive in case of pickups required and the post production period of movies and then promotion of the movie till release date. He can begin filming it in September or October 2021 with Winter 2022 or May 2023 being most likely release dates.

 

Gunn will end up much richer after this entire thing since he obviously got a good pay hike for Squad 2, an EP credit on future movies, a pay hike for Guardians 3 for sure as the contract had to be renegotiated there.

2023 would be a 6 year gap between films which I think Marvel would want to avoid. November 2022 could be an option for them, it would be interesting to see what kind of deal WB and Marvel did.
