I don't have issue with Wolf despite its profanity. It is a work that showcase how Scorsese is capable of crafting non-stop ridiculous and outrageous scene, one after another. From getting tied-up on Plane, the yacht sinking, the Car, the phone; Scorsese utilizes every setting creatively to give us some of the most memorable fucked-up moment in cinematic history. Wolf is another example of how masterful Scorsese is in directing, he found a balance point between dramatic tension and black comedy. No wonder Wolf has some notable cult following after years of the release.

Problem I have is the  excess becomes excessive after a while. I would have rather seen more about  how exactly the Wolf pulled off his scams rather then just another orgy.

Sorry, but I don't think Scorsese had the drama/black comedy tension in Wolf that he had in "Goodfellas" and a couple of others.

Wolf is a good movie, but not in the upper tier of Scorsese;s work.

Goodfellas. Casino is that style but pushed a lot further.

"Wolf of Wall Street" and "Irishman" also had that narration driven system.

Casino is also a bit overlong, and I think Scorsese could have dropped a couple of the fights between De Niro and Sharon Stone. Thye do become repetive after a while.

Goodfellas got too much killings and blood for black comedy mood. None of the scene that involved killings in Goodfellas utilised "silly over the top" approach. And the sequences in Goodfellas doesn't feel exaggerated or ridiculous.  Some parts of that movie had too much of thriller tone to call it a black comedy. Whereas Wolf is mostly white-collar crime, and no murder involved in the movie. That crawling scene alone is a display of black comedy. Overall Wolf definitely fit black comedy tone more than any other Scoresese' works

Scorsese’s movies tend to get carried by incredible performances. Hugo is his best as a film and I will stand by it. Wildly under-appreciated.

Hugo is good and shows Scorsese has alot of scope as a filmmaker, , but it's not in the same universe as "Raging Bull" or "Goodfellows".

Both two of the most overrated movies I’ve ever seen, bar none. RB is nothing at all wo DeNiro performance. Goodfellas I just don’t get the hype for in general.

It's just funny to me that he mentions Nolan as a Savior Against Franchise Cinema when dude had to make an acclaimed Batman trilogy to get to where he is today.

Not to mention Inception while very good and entertaining is a sci-fi heist movie, not exactly Silence.

It is a lovely profile though on his life and mortality. Definitely worth the read. But I knew as soon as I read it that the one passage would be stripped of context to bait the dumbest minds on the internet. A shame but it's how the game works.

At least Nolan is not beholden to franchise movies. Even during his Batman trilogy days, he made Prestige and Inception. Since then he has avoided sequels even when movies are successful and most filmmakers would have made sequel to something like Inception. Also when Nolan made Bat trilogy, it was not as if SH movies dominated BO across the board. There was diversity in Top 10 that was lacking by late last decade.
