The Box Office Buzz and Tracking Thread: Electric Boogaloo

Recommended Posts

Kenneth Branagh is probably begging Disney to never release Death on Nile so it doesn't jeopardize with Oscar chances with Belfast.

Deep Water is surely being pushed and Searchlight releases Nightmare Alley just a week after.

Without many Disney releases scheduled soon, Lightyear and Turning Red make the sense.

I'd also imagine other films will be shown like The 355, Cyrano, Marry Me, Downton Abbey

Deep Water is likely being dumped whenever it comes out at this point tbh. Adult dramas have been struggling for the most part and it's hard to imagine Affleck and de Armas being eager to do a promo tour for a movie they made when they were together forever ago and will have been broken up for eons by the time it sees the light of day.

My theaters aren’t doing private showings up here. I called about one for a Christmas present, and they said that was just a Covid special. They weren’t gonna do them for the foreseeable future

No. My data was incomplete yesterday as I was getting the data. This is complete data. I dont think they added any shows yesterday.

I just checked and it’s at 53 shows for Thursday. I wonder if they added 11 more or your scraper is dropping 11 shows for some reason.

Well I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but things seem super soft as we near the homestretch. And while I always appreciate Menor's numbers, I don't think Free Guy is a good comp to use for this film. Maybe things will change as we get closer, but I don't have huge hopes.

Over the past few days there's been this weird mindset that Matrix 4 is set to bomb big time and only do like 10-20M on its OW. But honestly, while it's not a crazy first day of sales, if you take out the Dune number, which had an insane fan/PLF rush, these numbers seem pretty solid. I know that this is being hurt by Spidey and that it would have done way better in 2022 (telling ya, this would have been a slam dunk on Labor Day weekend if Warner didn't already pay for Keanu's backend deal), but I think these are pretty good results, barring a potential fan rush that doesn't pick up once we head towards release. That idea isn't impossible, but I think we're good for right now.

I felt it was best to use non-EA shows, as that amounted to about 1,408 seats sold and a gross of...1.5M. Yeah, that's just too out of whack here. And yeah, that Jungle Cruise comp isn't good right now, but things will go down to Earth pretty quickly. And since I can't use Space Jam due to demographic issues, this is all I got at this point in time. What are you gonna do?
