But how is a city in california still have 25% limit? I thought they have increase the cap?

Because the 'rona is still relatively bad here:

https://covid19.ca.gov/safer-economy/

Or at least in the "substantial" tier.

That bar on the side that shows population by tier?  Placer and Sacramento County accounts for approximately 40% of folks left in the Severe tier.

Mind it isn't a huge spike type outbreak.  But compared to the rest of the state, we're what passes for a hotspot in the state.  Is finally trending downward and I'll be curious to see if we finally slip under the "Severe" tier when numbers get updated later today (though I think we still need to qualify for a lower tier for a couple of weeks before we can be shifted to it officially).

But, well, we don't qualify yet is the easy, simple, answer.

In Denver, A Quiet Place 2 is lagging quite a bit behind when including the Wednesday double features. Adjusting for the 9 theaters I tracked originally, there are 289 tickets sold as of yesterday. It beats out the 257 sold for Thursday back in March of last year, but it's far behind the 474 sold for Wednesday and Thursday. PWPs probably help a lot with the gap though, all of them were sold before Cruella came online.

The Conjuring 3, counted today at 11am EST (so far no showtimes on Thursday):

NY (AMC Fresh Meadows 7): 37 (4 showtimes)
Miami (AMC Sunset Place 24): 10 (4 showtimes)
Grand Rapids (AMC Grand Rapids 18): 6 (4 showtimes)
Austin (AMC Lakeline 9): 2 (2 showtimes)
Tempe/Phoenix (AMC Centerpoint 11): no showtimes so far
San Francisco (AMC Metreon 16): 6 (3 showtimes)
LA (AMC Universal): 63 (3 showtimes)

Total tickets sold in 6 theaters till today for June 4: 124.

AQP II, previews on Thursday, counted today at 11am EST:

NY (AMC Fresh Meadows 7): 91 (5 showtimes)
Miami (AMC Sunset Place 24): 26 (8 showtimes)
Grand Rapids (AMC Grand Rapids 18): 10 (7 showtimes)
Austin (AMC Lakeline 9): no showtimes so far
Tempe/Phoenix (AMC Centerpoint 11): 5 (3 showtimes)
San Francisco (AMC Metreon 16): 77 (10 showtimes)
LA (AMC Universal): 193 (17 showtimes)

Total tickets sold in 6 theaters till today for May 27: 402.

After last week I would preferably avoid all comparisons. But to stay this time rather pessimistic: It 2 had 1959 sold tickets 6 days later (=on Monday of its release week) in the same theaters (so AQP is at 20% now).
Means in my theaters AQP would need an increase by ca. 150% within the next 6 days for a result of around 50M OW. That's not completely impossible but not easy. And then it's still questionable if the walk-ups will be equally strong.
The Conjuring 3 has to tr
iple its numbers within one week to track AQP II.

By the way I expanded the number of theaters for more variety. I will not count everyday but for sure at least once again this week.

I won't really consider it lagging behind.

1. Thursday solo is still being ahead.

2. AQP2 numbers from last year seems like were T-8 or T-9 days while this year are T-11 days.

I don't how many are for Thursday alone, but would guess even Philly AQP2 is beating last year sales.

@Porthos since you have raw data in tabular form in some sheet, I suppose.

Can you make a line chart showing AQP2 and AQP trend. Looking back, using Keyser's numbers, AQP2 had $500K sales for Thursday T-12 days in America. Considering how all our cities are essentially ahead of last year, can assume that number to be around $700K+.

In the 9 theaters originally tracked, there are 308 tickets sold and 6 PWPs(excluding the $250 one). So even more of an advantage for Thursday alone. Assuming most of the PWPs are for A Quiet Place, then we can probably say that A Quiet Place 2021 is only slightly behind 2020.

Hopefully the positive buzz from the review can close up this gap. AQP2 last year was shut out 7 days before preview right? So the comparison should stop at T-7.

Yep. Another bad day in an endless line of bad days. You would think the reviews dropping would give it...a boost, but nah. Really sad honestly. Gonna lead to a bad weekend, that'll soon lead to a bad summer. Who knows? The rest of the year will probably be bad too. Oh well.

One big problem is I didn't realize there was a double feature getting a ton of tickets until a few days into my track.  So that would screw with the first few days of tracking.  Also. AQP II Take Two had two extra days of presales.  Neither are the biggest deals in the world, but it does make exact comparisons irksome.

Might be able to figure out something from T-17 through T-10.

*recreates stuff*

Not the most elegant charts in the world, but should get the point across:

PMI8nX2.png

Y-axis is total tickets sold, X-axis is days before release.

OTFe8UQ.png

X-axis is still days before release, Y-axis is tickets sold that day.  Looks like the second go around had a pretty hefty head start locally, but it did have a couple of extra days of presales.  Other thing is messing with stuff is that double feature which was doing brisk sales, as I mentioned.  On the other hand, the 2021 version of this won't have a single PWP on it.  As I said last night, I know for a fact one is already booked for AQP II, and probably 6 or 7 of the other 9 are as well.

So AQP II 2020 was accelerating (at least for the double feature) just as the bug hit the windshield.  We'll see soon(-ish) if AQP 2021 starts to accelerate as well.
