How reliable are Pulse sales? Are they related to Fandango? Cuz those reports (Nun outsells previous Conjuring films on Fandango) are pretty reliable.

The latest Top 5 from Pulse:

Why else do you think I’ve been calling for A Star Is Born over Venom OW the last couple weeks :Gaga:

I'm leery of predicting ASIB winning the weekend because of the R rating and comic book movies naturally being big openers that are frontloaded but I can't deny that it has a real possibility. Venom's reviews will be very, very important.

Venom is consistently selling ahead of ASIB when you account for all formats

Running total for today:  Venom: 3515 &  ASIB:  2493  EDIT: (Full Sunday)  4871 v  3315

But genre & target audience matters when making comparisons in pre-sales

How female driven will ASIB?  Will the R rating skew to higher pre-sales even though the target age might be overall younger than O8 and MM2?

Will Venom act more like Deadpool than Ant-Man even though it's PG-13 because it's core audience seems to be younger men rather than families and therefore be more pre-sale heavy?

Opening Week

Fandango App Monday Tues Wed Thursday
Oceans 8 3,009 4,372 11,114

Mamma Mia 2 4,427 5,099 12,117 17,226

Deadpool 2 23,134 28,896 41,212

Jurassic World 2 9,310 12,761 23,266

Antman & The Wasp  6,613 5,990 11,108

The Meg 1,539 2,944 6,723 16,202

Look at Venom the past two hours... And yeah you gotta look at the other formats. The 209 tickets for Venom that hour is only for standard 2d. The two of them are both starting to blow up tho. Hitting the 300s per hour. Venom even hit 600+ one hour when accounting all formats

Yes but let's be real here. CBMs are known for having bigger presales than any other genre. ASIB doesn't strike me as a presales heavy movie.

Gaga's fanbase is as noisy as CBM's. This is why presales and buzz are so big. Reviews will burn Venom, but it has other advantages like Imax, 3D and more cinemas than ASIB. ASIB over Venom total is virtually locked, but not seeing about OW.

Now both Venom and A Star is Born are on MT:

1. Night School: 19.8%

2. Small Foot: 16.1%
3. The House With a Clock: 8.8%
4. Venom: 7.2%

5. A Star is Born: 5.2%

Peace,

Mike

The fact that a movie like ASIB can keep up with a CBM in terms of presales is mighty impressive. And I know someone here mentioned the Lady Gaga fanbase but I don't think that makes such a huge difference. Diehards would have bought tickets by now and if that fanbase was so big then the numbers on Youtube for the trailers and music video would be bigger, especially since ASIB is basically new music from Gaga. But they are not coming even close to Venom's. I think 60m might happen for ASIB.
