The Box Office Buzz and Tracking Thread: Electric Boogaloo

Recommended Posts

First Spider-Verse shows in Tallahassee:

Dolby: 42/236

2D: 16/104

IMAX: 8/372

These sales are... interesting. The 3D show in half an hour has already sold more tickets than the 2D show starting now. The two main 2D shows tonight have only sold a combined 22 tickets, but the next Dolby show is packed. Today was the last day of finals for most students, so we'll see how walkups are.

Mortal Engines 40 1366 2.93%
Spider-Man Into the Spider-Verse 251 3180 7.89%
The Mule 46 852 5.40%

Mortal Engines Comps:

22% of Maze Runner (5.4M)

36% of Tomb Raider (8.4M)

46% of Pacific Rim Uprising (13.1M)

18% of Ready Player One (7.7M)

67% of Skyscraper (16.6M)

LOL hopefully it'll at least pass PRU's comp

Spider-Verse Comps:

28% of Thor: Ragnarok (34.8M)

72% of Coco (36.8M)

199% of Ferdinand (26.7M)

129% of Jumanji (46.8M)

10% of Incredibles 2 (18.5M)

39% of Ant-Man and the Wasp (29.5M)

68% of Hotel Transylvania 3 (30M)

37% of Venom (29.6M)

57% of The Grinch (38.8M)

69% of Ralph (38.6M)

Admittedly, I feel like the movie should have done a bit better than what current presales suggest, considering my area, but a lot of these comps are around the 30M range, which is what tracking suggests, so let's just go with this.

Mule Comps:

184% of Mountain Between Us (19.4M)

57% of The Commuter (7.9M)

148% of 12 Strong (23.5M)

96% of 15:17 to Paris (12M)

78% of Death Wish (10.1M)

107% of Mile 22 (14.7M)

90% of First Man (14.4M)

Seems pretty good to hit the mid to high teens at least.

How is Black Panther a good comp? It didn't even release during the fall and it isn't animated either. If we were going with February movies, The Lego Batman would be a better comp because it is animated and also a superhero movie. Let me guess, you think BP is good comp because both have a black character as the main character?

Black Panther nears 5000 tickets sold. Spider-Verse is...not anywhere near that.

Of course it’s  nowhere near... I meant percentage wise 😂

near 5000 gives spiderverse around $10m... perhaps people are right it’s a shit comp 😕😞

7:00 Mortal Engines: 30/107

This won't surpass Overlord's preview total (which was 80-ish? I'll have full comps later). The IMAX show in an hour is looking quiet, and forget about the late shows. I'm kind of wondering if this could do something pitiful like 7M.
