Mamma! Mia: Here! We! Go! Again! | July 20, 2018 | Universal | Ol Parker to write and direct | Greatest Title of All Time? Yes.

The original Mamma Mia! was a great film.

It grossed over 600 million worldwide because it was the textbook definition of a "feel-good film" that brilliantly used ABBA songs to tell a simple story that many women could relate to.

I am glad that this is poised to break out!

91% on Rotten Tomatoes.

I'm not sure what I expected out of this film, but I definitely didn't expect that. Hopefully, this is a hit for everyone involved, and for its Romantic Comedy genre. Let's get that genre up and running again!

My favorite thing about the original MM was when Meryl Streep, then age ~60 (and at best looking 50-55) tells her daughter, age 20 (a lot is made of her being 20) that when she got pregnant her mom kicked her out of the house. In order for that to make sense, they needed to have cast a 35 yo in the Streep role. The lack of attention to detail was hilarious.

More like late 30s or 40 as should as all her friends and lovers.

The mother who kicked her out was also described as a now deceased strict Catholic but is now ...  Cher -  so the attention to detail in the new one isn't any better.

I just got spoiled by our radio morning show BIG TIME.

Seriously, they spoiled the one and only fact I was curious about.

So I guess I have to wait for "Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again...Again". :sparta:

MAMMA MIIIA :sparta:

Considering the messed up timeline and ages in this series we could get that story in 5 years with Amanda playing a soon to be grandmother.

The timeline in Mamma Mia! 2 is super confusing, I think had they just not given a particular date for the flashbacks, they would have gotten away with it

The Variety review reveals that

Spoiler

the "present day" section of the film takes place a year after Meryl's character died.

Meryl dead.  plot is Amanda Seyfried doing a grand reopening the hotel in remembrance of her.  cuts back and forth between this and Lily James/young Meryl Streep graduating from college and showing how she met young Brosnan, Firth, and Skarsgard before ending up on the island and becoming pregnant.
