Maybe this will let folks enjoy RPO's trailer a bit more.

The Comic Con trailer had to be nerdy. We should get one with JL and I think that will be more GA friendly.

Yeah, my problem with RPO isn't that I didn't understand the references...

I just love how we go from "OMG!!! Deadpool and Wonder Woman truly had stunning OW/overall perf (DP)/Legs/Overall Perf/Multi (WW)!" to "Meh, they are superhero films, after all. It's not shocking."

How quickly/conveninetly we forget the skepticism and doom-n-gloom around both of those films before they opened.

BOT, you keep doing you. :D

IT's OW is more impressive than both of the title's OWs you mentioned. You do know it.

Actually the easiest way to assess how impressive an OW is, is to see how it stands compared to other top movies of it's genre and IT is defienetely not comparable with Deadpool, let alone WW...

If Deadpool and Wonder Woman did nothing special then how come more people didn't predict their numbers/legs?

This childishness of if one movie does something amazing so let's pretend that other movies didn't do anything amazing is so absurd. The same thing will happen to IT as well I'm sure. We will see its opening weekend down played by certain people with certain agendas. Nobody is taking anything away from IT's stunning weekend by mentioning other great box office stories like Deadpool's. Sorry but it is a big deal that Deadpool made as much as it did with that rating and him not being Batman or Spider-Man.

Deadpool did insane, Wonder Woman did insane, It did insane.

End of discussion.

Those are my thoughts on the matter. I'd also add Get Out to that list. This binary, one thing or the other, line of thinking is so bizarre to me.

I never said that they didn't do very well. Their runs are amazing.

I just said that IT's performance is in a whole different level. Unlike the previous titles, it's unprecedentent for a movie of it's genre.

 Pure simple common sense.

IT's OW might end up being higher than the final domestic total of any other September movie. Crazy when you think about it.

Kingsman and Ninjago's OW are going to look miniscule in comparison to IT's huge OW but $40m+ in September is still really good, IT's OW is an outlier much like American Sniper's OW is an outlier.

2016 and 2017 are a lot like 2000 and 2001. The box office has a lot of interesting stories. 2000 did anyone expect a film like X-Men, Scary Movie, Meet The Parents, or even What Lies Benneath to do as well as they did?

same goes for 2001 where we had Hannibal, a film that was in a dump month. To something like The Fast And The Furious come out of nowhere.

2016 had Deadpool do amazing numbers. This year has been amazing for crazy hits, not just the horror genre but for everything else in general. Studios are learning to market better with films like IT, Get Out, Deadpool, Dunkirk, and other films that I can list, because there are dead months that you can find an audience.

January is typically a month for awards films and horror movies. But American Sniper proved that you can make a war blockbuster breakout, and market it as to what happens next without showing what happens next. And Studios know how to put a modest budget comedy to lure an audience like with Ride Along for example. Split is another one that is very amazing to see how well it turned out without having a big name headline it.

February has always been more eventful disclosing '06,'08,'11, and even '13. Hannibal,Daredevil,Hitch,50 First Dates,Ghost Rider,Valentine's Day,Deadpool,50 Shades Of Grey, and Kingsman have all proved that President's Day was more than a dump weekend. As for other films to mention Studios have found other areas such as the weekend after Super Bowl with Identity Thief, or The Vow/Safe House/Journey 2 combo or even the recent Lego Batman/50 Shades Darker/John Wick 2 combo. Black Panther could challenge Deadpool and Jesus to the February record depending on quality and interest.

March well has became a non-summer summer month. With films like Kong, Logan, Beauty & The Beast, and Boss Baby. Which all would have done sucessful in the summer, all did very well in the spring with big numbers. Ready Player One, and Tomb Raider will be interesting turnouts in 2018.

April is a mixed-bag, the Fast & Furious franchise has helped out this month overall. But also the Rio films, Jungle Book, and Cap 2 have proved that April was more than just a quiet month with small sleeper hits.

May... well May has changed heavily. Marvel owns the first weekend pretty much. But the second weekends are dead ones, so we may never see a Great Gatsby, Bridesmaids, or Neighbors for a while.

June has been a huge turning point since 2015 as Jurassic World knocked out records. And Pixar and DC also making out some helpings.

July is the month for small breakouts, Illumination, and whatever else is thrown at us.

August is now superhero squads and horror film breakouts.

September is SPA, horror, and adult-oriented blockbusters.

Everything else will be interesting this year and further on, if WB keeps up rockin' with Ninjago and knocks out Lego Batman or even Blade Runner is a surprise blockbuster. It should be interesting.

2017 should possibly easily surpass the record if it manages to pull enough interest to get people's butts in seats.

People are discrediting Get Out too? Bunch of easily seduceable tricksters.

I actually thought it was impossible that GO would be outseated as the box office story of the year, but It, especially if it makes over 300M - which it should - might very well.

Between these two monsters, PLUS Split and Annabelle: Creation which both massively overperformed, horror has had nothing short of a banner year. I cannot stress this enough: 2017 will see at least four different horror movies make over 100M domestically. I mean, last year, we were all celebrating a terrific Summer for horror, where The Conjuring 2 did 103M iirc - would probably rank #4 or #5 for 2017 horror, depending on how far Annabelle goes beyond 100 -, Don't Breathe did 89M, The Purge 3 did 79M, Lights Out did 61M and The Shallows ended with 55M. All of those, for low budget horror, are still to this day excellent numbers. But 2017's wave of juggernauts? That's a whole different story.

Right, horror just exploded this year. It's really quite amazing.

I'm just glad horror finally moved beyond torture porn and found footage. For about a good 5-8 years there, horror was only torture porn or found footage. I'm guessing it was mainly because found footage was guaranteed profit as budgets never reached beyond like 2-4M and torture porn was... well, I've no idea why that was such a big thing in the middle, especially considering that the movie which supposedly kicked off the torture porn craze i.e Saw, didn't even have much gore in it. Much of that movie is implied than shown.

All three films did stunning numbers.

DP's had an amazingly unexpected opening and a great run, and Wonder Woman had a multiplier that no superhero film will touch in a long time. Let's see It getting a 4.0 multi.

Don't know why people liked torture porn.  Yay, people are being brutally killed, how fun

Torture porn movies have never been even remotely scary, calling them horror movies seems wrong. And I just flat out loathe found footage horror movies. I refuse to watch them.
