Can you imagine?

I think the reveal happened in some hollywood-elsewhere comment: something along the lines of "Here's a pic of the Spirit Awards, see if you can spot Jeff". Then the pic itself was either spoiler-tagged or buried under some spoiler blank lines so you had to scroll to it.

I’ve seen the Baby It’s Cold Outside controversy come up.

One of the arguments for not pulling it was “But Rap Music!”, which was ignorant at best.

Others claimed the songs original intent are not rapey, but follow the social norms of the era where women were supposed to initially deny a man’s advances?

The Song was always a little off-putting to me.  While I wouldn’t say it’s about rape, its lyrics certainly do not sit well within a modern context.

While the line “What’s in this drink” may not have been intended to mean she thinks the guy put something in her drink, that’s how it sounds in the modern culture.  And in a time when we are trying to drill “No means no” in peoples heads, and rightfully so, Baby It’s Cold Outside is certainly implying her no does not mean no.

It’s starting to feel like the song is becoming an artifact of overt rape culture.  I do think it’s time to dismiss it, similar to how Disney renounced Song of the South (for much different reasons).  In the fact, while Song of the South arguably may not have been seen as racist in its time, looking at it now it’s certainly racist.  Baby It’s Cold Outside may be about a flirtation under 1940s dating norms, but 1940s dating norms promoted rape culture in that a woman’s no would only be taken as “try harder”.  I think not airing a song that continues to promote dating norms from a dated culture is a good decision, even if I reckon it’ll get reversed under the backlash.

I never really liked the song myself.  But I’m kind of in the camp of you don’t like it just stop listening to it.

Myeah, and same thing for the radio stations too. If they (individually) decide they'd rather not play it, sure.

I'm not really advocating for it to be completely removed from all music platforms.  But I think the decision to cut it from Christmas radio is a good one.

It's not a matter of liking or not liking it, I think it's more that the song's message has potential of being harmful and probably best to leave off of public radio.  I wouldn't want it to be legislated, it'd be a decision for each radio station to make still.

Ok, saw Widows yesterday. I laughed at certain point for making all men scumbags. Good movie tho, the actresses were great as were their characters, plus it’s executed with such mastery it’s incredible.

This Kevin Hart thing is getting worse: https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/kevin-hart-breaks-silence-anti-gay-tweet-controversy-1167258

and now he just posted this on Instagram:

So...any guesses as to who the next Oscar host is gonna really be?

That was fast:

https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/news/kevin-hart-steps-down-as-oscars-host-1167336

They got a host and lost a host in just two days. This is an even bigger debacle than the Brett Ratner thing several years ago.

Soon  people will loose (are already loosing) positions because their random connected object heard forbidden words you are not supposed to say according to the Scriptures of the New Puritans.

These people will devour each other while I grab more pop corn.
