The entire Split hype machine was wild. MNS finally makes a movie that isn't an outright disaster so folks gotta act like it's the second coming

but it is really good though.  in the upper tier of films from 2017 for me (and it’s not just because Shyamalan “finally made a good movie” I’d give it the same grade if literally anyone else directed it) (also The Visit was good too)

My sister watched it and she and her friend had no idea about the final scene.

I saw it with two of my friends and I started freaking out during the final scene and they were so confused at what was so exciting.  Only about two other people in my sold out theater knew what it was too (granted it was an audience of like 95% teenagers)

PRELIMINARY INSTRUCTIONS AND DEADLINE (possibly subject to change, but if you submit prior to a change it won’t effect you and won’t have to make any alterations):

Go ahead and RANK the Best Picture nominees in your order of preference.  For the rest of the nominees pick a number 1 vote and a runner up. We’ll use the runner ups to break a tie.

DEADLINE: Monday, February 26th at 11:59pm

I'm guessing the plan is to hold the show right before the Oscars that afternoon (March 4)?

Can you post all the nominees in the first post so I don't have to hunt for them in the thread

Spaghetti’s a bit busy these few weeks so we haven’t made definite plans yet.  But the preference is to hold the ceremony sometime pre-Oscars

I’ll need either @The Shape of Pasta To do so, or another mod to do so as I’m not the author of the thread.

The nominees are attached to a recommended post currently

So I decided to go ahead and send in my ballot. College is becoming a very big stressor I need to focus more on assignments and tests; I'm a little sad that I didn't see films like Coco, Call Me By Your Name, Phantom Thread, and Molly's Game in time, but I am still very happy with the record amount of films I was able to see in 2017.

How the fuck was DDL snubbed? Shit baffles me.

I think it was because of the late release date. I mean, Call Me By Your Name had a late-ish release date, too, but that film had more consensus support from the voters of heavily-artistic features from the beginning, and most of its nominations were gimmes anyway (Adapted Screenplay, Soundtrack).

I think Phantom Thread is this year's Lion. :(
