I disagree that it was that bad of a year for the actor category. Even if it is a dryer year than others, I still think there are many good performances (like Kaluuya and Franco and Oldman and Hunnam and McAvoy).

I'd argue our best actor is still preferable to supporting actor, where there's only one real great performance (Dafoe) as opposed to at least Chalamet and Kaluuya in the former. Gosling is the only one who's a real head-scratcher to me.
