In new openings, Korea bowed to $9.9M on 1,260 screens for No. 1, above BVS, JLand WW. France grossed $6.2M on 607 screens at No. 1 and on par with JL, but above WW. Germany came in over JL and WW with $4.2M on 775 screens. Spaincaught $2.8M from 511 to tie JL and land 23% over WW.

 

The Top 5 markets are heavily weighted in China’s favor with the Middle Kingdom at $232.8M, followed by Brazil ($17.1M), Mexico ($16.1M), Russia ($12.8M) and the UK ($12.6M).

 

France was good because it had lowest OD of any DCEU and then legs caught up.

Absolutely crazy if you ask me as Infinity War had the prime release date on Liberation Day, while Kong was filmed in Vietnam. Aquaman rides solely on WOM.

Ignoring China, Justice League hit 273M internationally after its third weekend. 

 

Aquaman will top that in the next 5 days with holiday legs in many territories, plus Australia opening. Also, many territories will only be in their second weekend internationally, while JL had a more global launch. 

 

Domestic ultimately will pass 300M unless it starts collapsing quickly. This weekend could hit 200M (I am thinking 195M at worst), and then Aquaman will have NYE and New Years, plus at least some schools off until Jan 6th. 

 

China is looking like maybe 275M. If not, pretty close. 

 

If Aquaman just matched JL internationally outside of China, it will hit at least 900M worldwide with those figures. But JL only made 26M outside of China internationally in weekend #3. Aquaman clearly has a lot more momentum, given that just Xmas wasn't far below that. 

 

If 1B doesn't happen, it will be close.

Yeah I guess so. Last highest grossing WB film in my home country is BvS at RM 31+m.

 

James Wan’s F7 was the biggest and the only film to reach RM60m until Infinity War took the crown with RM68m. It’s great to see another Wan’s film to be such big here. His name might be another factor for the success of Aquaman in Asia.
