btw my sold out audience for Red Sparrow yesterday was mostly 50+ so I'm not surprised it had a good weekend multiplier overall. Should make about $45-50M in the end, which isn't great considering the budget, but above average for an adult-skewing spy thriller with little action.

I have always wondered why BOM stopped counting this record on 500M. Since they could extend it to "fastest to 550, 600, 650 and 700". Since the 550 will probably host, at minimum, let's say BP, IW, JW, Avengers4, Lion King, Ep9 within less than two years from now.

FASTEST TO $100–$500 MILLION

It's determined to reach that 315m ending.

It’s only 30k or so away from 315M, should go over that mark easily.

From the looks of TC through weekends, I don’t think Thor ever had dollar theaters expansion. But the late legs, albeit in very small amount of theaters, have been good for Ragnarok.

I know how far it's from that, but at one point it seemed dead at 313m when it made 181k and looked likely it was slowing down, but it has got little sexy legs to make it to 315m.

Mojo isn't interested in those types of things anymore, not since IMDB bought them out - notice how you actually have to hunt to find their Oscar stuff now since the button for it no longer exists (and hasn't for a couple of years.)

Considering when the site was created and probably last maintained in the charts, Titanic and MAYBE TDK were the only films. I have a hard time remembering if the 500m tab was there before TDK or not.

They have been lazy since this new guy came a year ago I think. The article have even dried up.

It's "expansion" is evidenced by the legs just not necessarily in the theater counts lol. Similar in kind to the way that Disney has treated the SW films - no obvious huge increases but you can bet that 2nd runs have been extending the life of them.

Just now, tawasal said:

BTW why is it called dollar theater?

I think the second-run theaters used to charge only a dollar a ticket (maybe some places still do, but probably not many), and the label stuck even when inflation made this term mostly obsolete.

Here in the US, 2nd run theaters (those playing films that are more than 6 weeks old generally) used to be "Dollar theaters" in which for $1 or less or maybe up to $5 depending on the location you could watch an older film at a reduced price. You can see the "bump" for a lot of films around the 8 week mark or so, they might add 300-400 theaters and get a boost in gross hence the "dollar theater" bump. I doubt you can find one that actually charges $1 anymore - I know the closest one to us has been $3 for a long time now.
