Anne Hathaway's performance in TDKR as Selina Kyle is still by far the best female superhero performance ever...with the exception of Michelle Pfeiffer. Interesting that the best two came from the same character. ALSO...Wonder Woman.

Gadot, Hathaway, and Pfeiffer absolutely rule the superhero genre in terms of female performances.

I think Searchlight's 2018 slate could top the ~170M from last year's releases:

Can You Ever Forgive Me?: 80M

The Old Man and the Gun: 50M

The Favourite: 40M

Isle of Dogs: 35M

The Aftermath: 15M

Tolkien: 10M

Total: 230M

You've forgotten Super Troopers 2 coming out in a few weeks :)

I think you're being a bit optimistic with some of those predictions though. Like the Favourite? I dont know what its about but Yorgos Lanthimos movies have made 9M, 2.3M, and 0.1M. 40M seems a little high....

Can you even like, name any other female superheroes. It's not exactly a hard contest to win.

Something around 4.2M ow (¥425M). Straight to the 9th biggest super hero ow ever in Japan (pretty good for a country where super hero movies are not a big thing except for Spider Man)

That is the 3-day number, whereas Japanese trades (and Corpse) report weekend figures as Sat+Sun only. Based on the estimated 2-day opening of ¥275,000,000, Black Panther is tentatively the #21 biggest opening weekend a for Marvel/DC film in Japan.

Would give it a total of 155-175 or a multiplier of 2.2-2.5. If this was Joy or something else original I'd say that's strong, but for something based on a popular book with a built in audience that's pretty mediocre/weak.

It isn't popular in the sense that Twilight, Harry Potter or The Hunger Games were popular, and certainly not overseas.

I am still hoping it will open in China with editing, as Logan did.  We'll see.  I was about to say that the number 1 opening in Taiwan might bode well for China, but actually I don't know if Taiwan's market is anything like China's in what they like.  It opened number 1 in Italy and Spain, as well, and number 2 in Germany.  Box office draw isn't only a domestic issue.

Rubbish. Pfeiffer is the top, Romjin's Mistique* comes second.

Gadot's acting abilties are laughable, she's easily the worst superstar actress in recent years.

*Not really a superhero, but then again Catwoman is not a superhero either.

Black Widow? I mean, ScarJo has to be up there, too. Gadot is #1 for me, though.

Also, not movies, but I like Melissa Benoist as Supergirl and Krysten Ritter as Jessica Jones a lot too.

Yes on Scarlet (particularly in TWS) and Ritter.

We also just had Danai and Luipta in BP who were both excellent (actually my two favorites in the movie) and the fun Tessa Thompson performance in Thor.

Corpse also says this about Black Panther's opening:

"If it earns exactly what I'm predicting over the weekend, it still wouldn't be enough to crack the Top 20 Opening Weekends for Marvel/DC films, and achieving the 18th biggest opening for Marvel/DC films is probably its ceiling as well."

Americans talking about Wonder Woman online last year was the strangest thing for me in the UK.

The film made less than Logan over here, and I remember the reaction being more on the “yeah, that was alright” side of things.
