IW was always going to guarantee it but it looks like this will be the best April in a long time thanks to AQP and likely Rampage.

March and April switched roles compared to last year in a sense.

In a long time? Think "all time". This is the March 2017 of 2018: the early year Summer month that's not actually Summer. Granted, March '17 had a more batshit insane slate, but April '18 is basically heavy hitters every week (except the weekend before Infinity War).

Not to mention RPO which while a March release will make most of its gross in April.

does anyone know how many locations Isle of Dogs will expand to next weekend.  It went above the projected 400 this weekend with 547.  Maybe double to 1,094?

Is Pandas supposed to do well this weekend?  WB IMAX Documentary, 33 locations.

does You Were Never Really Here expand to more than 100 next weekend?

Is Traffic still going wide with Super Troopers 2 and I Feel Pretty on the 20th?

I am guessing one of the limited release films will be going with +1,000 locations the weekend Avengers opens.

1,750+ is what Deadline reported a few weeks ago

Why the fuck are all of you saying it "might" hit the low 40s? These previews indicate something over 50-60M.

Completely agree. I'm thinking it could push 60, but I'll stick with mid 50's for now.

And Blockers is actually doing quite well as well. 1.5M is nothing to scoff at, it'll probably hit 23M, and will WOM could make a break for 80-100. I wouldn't trust the RT audience score, as most of the negative reviews are simply bashing "metoo"

What's up with horror lately? Is it going mainstream once again after a pretty dire(right?) period?

Id say yes. During the mid 2000s to early 2010s the genre was in a really bad shape, but titles like Insidious (2011), Sinister (2012) and most importantly The Conjuring (2013) rebuilt trust and interest among wider audiences i believe. Add to that a string of really well-received and simply good horror movies in the past three years (Don't Breathe, Conjuring 2, It Follows, It, Get Out, Split etc) and you have a booming genre.

It is a genre (specially for the jump scares but in general tension) that the in theater experience can be rather different than the at house experience, specially once it started to be successful and you can watch it in crowded theater like the filmmaker intended. (watching them without zoning out at any moment for distraction change them also quite a bit).

It is also an entry door for "riskier" project and new director because of it's relative safety.

There is some hope for a pure comedy comeback (and other genre that the crowd change the experience quite a bit)

Why would it be likely to follow It? That was based on a famous Stephen King novel and had a 50.4M OD w/13.5 coming from previews. Split and HDD are much better comparisons as they were both originals.

Horror went through a bad patch where it was a mix of torture porn and found footage films, cheap to make and made profits but with diminishing returns.I think from 2011 onwards, horror got its groove back.

I think comedy probably could have a similar resurgence but I imagine it'll more gradual

It sure does feel like horror has been on a creative upswing the past two years. Don't Breathe, Split, Get Out, IT, Happy Death Day, A Quiet Place...all movies that got really good/great reviews.
