Weekend Thread: Rampage 34.5M, AQP 32.6M, ToD 19M, RPO 11.2M, Blockers 10.2M

Deadline's weekend update:

Rampage only dropped 26% on Sunday to bring its debut opening weekend up to $35.7M, roughly $1M above what was estimated for the weekend. Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson film distributed by The New Line/Warner Bros. film stomped to the top of the box office chart on Saturday and held its ground throughout the rest of the weekend. More to come later today.

The Saturday bump (w.r.t true Friday or total OD) and the hold on Sunday is fantastic. The WoM seems to be really very good. Maybe Rampage will be able to withstand the wrath of A:IW?? Or at least it won't get annihilated totally and vanish from the face of the earth. It's still going to be the 2nd choice blockbuster movie among the GA in the 1st 3 weeks of May. So 100 million isn't out of the reckoning just yet. It's gonna be difficult to pull off (since it needs 2.8x the OW) but it's still a possibility atm.

Also should we really be looking at historical trends of live action VG movies to project a multiplier?? This is clearly playing much more to families. So the legs should be better the most live action VG adaptation. Although A:IW does put a big question mark in there in terms of sustainability of legs but we have to wait and see. 100 million might just happen.

Anything more than a cameo or bit part counts towards a star's box office history and totals.

Yes (how much you were in the marketing is often the big question) , that was not is point the article was saying Johnson in a lead role.

Jim on $6.1b after just 7 films.

By 2022 (or 2021) Jim is the highest grossing director

by 2024 everyone is left in the dust

Talk to me when Cameron makes a movie geared towards children the highest grossing film.
