@MikeQ Your second list there seems to be missing IW

Oops! Thank you for pointing that out. I had added Infinity War to my all-time list (all films), but had neglected to add it to the CBM list. :)

Peace,

Mike

AIW has the worst fourth weekend percentage drop of any of those 20 films and people think Deadpool had a bad weekend?

That drop for IW is based on the likely lowballed studio estimate Sunday.   More importantly, IW’s 4th weekend is a non-holiday with a 120+ opener. Most movies there had Memorial Day 4th weekends, and/or no real competition.

I can't wait for WW to open up and god forbid it does $150M OW and $400M total the MCU fanboys are gonna be popping into its thread talking about how only MCU sequels increase from their originals without taking into account that WW made $412M domestically.

The big mistake Deadpool did was making so much money right from the start, no room to grow with the sequel.

It should have made $176M like Captain America 1. :Venom:

Because DP was already at a high point, whereas most MCU sequels don't have a $360M domestic hurdle to cross in order to pass the original.

Just to put it into some context for you: Deadpool's domestic gross would put it 5th on the list for MCU solo films. The only films in front of it are BP, Iron Man 3, Captain America CW and GOTG2.

The only solo film that outgrossed DP from the MCU was BP.

Yet I recall many Deadpool fans saying that this would outgross the original.  It’s funny how the arguments change when things aren’t going as expected. People used to say that the MCU would never top the original avengers, that it was impossible and here we are years later with infinity war and black panther both outdoing it. So the same applies to other movies.

Also lol if we are gonna use the solo movies excuse then both Deadpool’s movies are ensemble/team movies. Especially the sequel. Either way there is no point in comparing them since they will never be on the same level. And that’s fine cause it’s still making money for the studio.

I wonder how people reacted with Spider-Man 2? That made less than the first domestically and slightly decreased OS as well.

Honestly I think we had forum members that didn’t overreact back then

Black Panther 2 ain't making 700mil guys. Movies like Deadpool and Black Panther played to max audiences the first time. We'll see if Wonder Woman can pull a Hunger Games: Catching Fire. It has a 50/50 shot imho.

There is always room for improvement. The phase one marvel films made the avengers phenomenon possible (or we could be looking at justice league without them) so even with their “low” (that wasn’t  even that low for pre-2010 comic book films when Batman begins did 370 million WW and x-men the last stand , biggest x-men film at the time, 460 million WW   ) bo results they deserve way more respect  than fuckin Deadpool.

People seem to have forgotten where the comic book genre was before the MCU came along, with basically only spider man being a big succesfull modern movie franchise (with Batman and Superman having disappeared after b&R and Superman 3/4) and what was considered good box office for comic book movies at the time, Laughing at the movies that actually CREATED the circumstances for the superhero genre to become the biggest genre in cinema and comparing them to a 2016 movie is silly.

BP2 expectations: 190M OW/500M US/1.2B WW.

I dont want to be on this forum when Black panther 2 comes out. theres no way it tops the first especially domestically.

That one will be interesting to watch. How much of the new audience can it retain from the first film when it's no longer a cultural phenomenon? An Ultron level drop would still carry the sequel over $500 million, which still ranks among the top-grossing MCU films (probably Top 5 at the time of its release).

Yeah, I could see it pulling an Age of Ultron, or if it's lucky a TDKR.  Domestic decrease, but probably also growth overseas.

Captain America 1 was released in the ancient time of... 2011. The Dark Knight made $534M three years earlier.

It doesn't matter if you like some other CBMs more, Deadpool sure "deserves" respect for making more profit than Captain America: Civil War and Doctor Strange combined.

190 OW really? It will likely have worse legs and a lower total, but I think the OW can go up a bit.
