What's the record OW drop from one mega-opener to its sequel? JW2 will surely approach it, depending on your definition of 'mega-opener'?

BVS 166=>JL 93.8 is -43.5% ... but release period was less ow friendly and more leg friendly (2.44x vs 1.99x)

with 130-135 FK is looking at 35-38% drop from JW.

I dont think WOM will be bad or even mixed. People said the same about the first JW and that had amazing audience reception.

People just want to have a fun time seeing people getting eaten by dinosaurs. They get that.

I think JW did a much better job at delivering something the GA would adore. Park open. Innocents getting torn to pieces. New dinos. Revels in nostalgia. Dino team up to take out the mixed breed dino in the end. Rex gets his roar towering over the park. Pterosaurs doing all kinds of damage. Even go back to the original spot with the Jeeps, etc. People loved that shit. There was an awe and wonder to the Mosasaur, riding in the giant hamster ball, etc.

This one has some fun stuff but I don't see it appealing to the GA like JW. Not at all honestly. Anecdotally, folks I know that saw both and liked or even loved JW didn't like JWFK much. Generally found it boring and just didn't sweep them up in the action or adventure. I wouldn't be shocked if that's the general consensus.

Saw JW2 last night-better then the last 2, not as good as the first 2.

(When I saw the Incredibles 2 last Saturday I got tickets for Friday by mistake, luckily I didn't have to pay twice and they exchanged our tickets, I missed the trailers and most of the short, but at least I didn't miss any of the film)

I feel like a lot of the GA are in my boat for JW: I generally liked the movie but it didn't compel me to go see a sequel, I had my fix. If OW is 130 and it gets a 2.5x multi it will have pretty much exactly a 50% dropoff from the first. At least they aren't greenlighting Blue: A Jurassic World Story.

JW3 might have a better hook for the GA. I could see that being a 400M grosser.

Wait, wait... I assumed it was just a temporary hiatus. This is forever?

He left back in April and sadly, it's forever :(:(

Buzz does feel pretty muted for Ant-Man. Then again, the first movie was one of the lowest-grossing MCU movies.

I think after two huge MCU films this year, a smaller hit wouldn't be a bad thing. Probably will be enough for another Ant-Man film. $75-85m OW would be fine.

For reference, this was JW's first Friday update in 2015:

UPDATE, Friday 12:53 PM: Jurassic World is currently estimating a $65M Friday off midday sales — that’s inclusive of last night’s $18.5M B.O.

We all know what the number was in the end.

Did this ever happen before?

How can they be off by almost $20M..
