This is going to bomb. People want to see the moon hit the Earth not another disaster movie that prevents a disaster. Haven't they learned anything from Titanic?

I'm trying to think of Gerard Butler disaster films, but all I can think of are Geostorm and P.S. I Love You. Are there any more he's done?

Emmerish's problem is he pretty much took the disaster genre as far as it could go in "2012". Everything is anti climatic after that.

I liked Midway, but I cannot forgive Emmerich for IDR. He ruined that franchise completely. Can't even enjoy ID now. Will Smith should have been part of IDR. Would have given some valuable inputs and been another 800+M hit.

The premise sound very very dumb but when I see director name.....everything is explained. Roland emmerich fame basically go down in line with the decline of disaster genre and I doubt he can revitalize the genre in anyway. 

 

Hope Lionsgate can still make some bucks out of this. 140m is not a small budget for a mid-sized studio.

Lionsgate didn't spend on production. Some bank financed the movie, I think.

Like I said, Emmerich sort of made the ultimate disaster film in "2012" and probably impossible for him to top himself in terms of sheer destruction.

And, let's be honest, when he tries a film that is not built around elaborate SFX ("Anonymous" and "Stonewall") he pretty much sucks. He blows things up real good, but that is the extent of his cinematic talent.
