Deadpool 2/ Thor 3 : 320m

 

This year November has lesser number big tentpole that generate big number, last year BR, Grinch, WiR2 and FB2 all opened to above 50m but we have so many many more mid-scale film. the number of wide releases in next few weeks is crazy and many of them target the same demo as Joker.

 

joker needs to sustain enough of gross like ASIB or like Gravity last year to capitalize its award season attention ( assuming it is a contender) 

 

So far no news on the home media release date for Joker, but i think January will be the spot , WB will replicate how it treat ASIB to Joker this year, not to mention this year Oscar season is 2 weeks earlier.   

I don't know why your using Deadpool 2 as a comp .

Joker - 277.8m

 Joker is ahead of it in dialies and has been having superior weekdays and weekends with exception of OW and opening week and that finaled at 318m( without re release)

Joker is playing closer to DP.

325m is the worst I see this making.

The OS weekend was 49.2M (up 1.4M)

The weekdays went up 1.2M.

Warner Bros. believes there is a tie between both pics for No. 1 with $19.125M, Disney, while they haven’t reported their figures yet, sees a tie as of this morning as well. Industry calculations show Maleficent 2 ahead of Joker by a smidge, $19.12M to $19.05M. This sounds like the race will boil down to the mom and pop theater grosses which aren’t picked up by Comscore. We’ll see if Disney holds on to No. 1 later this morning, or if they concede.

I don't think some people like to factor in how different a landscape for a rated R film is.  Most big moneymakers these days are movies that touch on the 13 and under crowd. Kids.  No,  I'm not saying anything that we don't already know but there are zero kids at Joker. 

 

When you remove children you are removing the key demo from the equation.  Joker's run even in NA can only be described as outstanding.
