When a 70 percent-ish RT score is considered horrendous, you know the franchise is unlike any other!

To be fair my usual reaction to that kind of MCU criticial consensus is "huh, why did they decide not to give this one a pass when so many of the others got one."

because for MCU, we know how critics have always favoured the films and the % are always inflated. Some of the 80/90percent-ish movies aren't great..

In your opinion. This take is so weird. "Critics favoured MCU films" nah they are just great and hence people like it. That´s why when you don´t make good movies you get a bad score. (Eternals and Thor) What one personally think doesn´t make what the general consensus is wrong just because you feel otherwise.

This is such a strange take, and has been disproved repeatedly on this site. Btw, you need to learn how RT aggregate works.

i know how RT aggregate works. But many people obviously don't - they look at the % to assume quality of a film. Please look at the comment I was replying to.

The bar is set higher because the likes of MCU films such as Captain Marvel can get almost 80% RT score. There is thus expectation that 60 / 70ish for a MCU film means they are not really good.

Because 60-70 RT of MCU is basically a Cinemascore in Bs where for many other franchises, even a Rotten Movies get A- Atleast.

Case in point Jurassic World, highest rated movie on RT is 72% which is basically amongst the lowest Rated MCU movies and its Cinemascore is A and Fallen Kingdom & Dominion have RT of 46 and 29 respectively and both have CS of A-, on other hand Thor 4 and Strange 2 are both in B+ with 64 & 74 RT.

Marvel has only 1 movie under 60 RT and 4 with CS in B range.

And please don't say that Audience expects masterpiece from Marvel that's why even 60 or 70 is bad.....

I don't really want to say that Critics are lenient, it's more like Marvel movies even on RT are more likely to have reviews from people who are fans compared to a franchise like Jurassic World or Fast & Furious.

So i read the Rotten Tomatoes eligibility criteria to be included as "Critics"

You Tubers, Podcasters, Writers and Social Media influencers can get eligible as Crirics.

All of these are more likely to be positive for even the worst Marvel movie compared to some other franchises. And obviously MCU has most number of fans in these categories, by far.

Not a surprise that if an MCU movie that gets 60-70 on Rotten Tomatoes is actually equivalent to a Rotten movie of other some other franchise for general audience.

Moderation

While Ant-Man is a part of the MCU, this isn’t the MCU thread. Let’s get the conversation back on to AMQ and off of the MCU at large. If you need to, you can discuss that in the Disney Thread.

mr mod

a real mcu thread doesnt exist, the disney thread only exists for company politics and politics politics; kinda silly to ask people to not talk about the mcu in the closest thing to a mcu thread there currently is

reviews for tv and movies are a bit different folks...

have heard good things about ms marvel but being fair its competition mcu wise isnt that major if we are being  real here.

Even if we're talking just TV shows Ms Marvel being ranked as #1 is questionable at best.

It depends, that “type” of critic are often misogynistic and racist. Especially if they only have a YouTube channel.

At least we have the “top critic” function.

What is it with superhero films having messy third acts? It’s been a problem for them for decades.

It's a classic writing issue with having to close out the story after having steady first two acts and usually closure is hardest in storytelling. It's easier to pose interesting new questions at the start of a movie compared with answering them in a satisfying manner.
