After seeing it, nothing is surprising regarding reception. Worst part is that the ideas that the movie presents aren’t even the problem, it’s just an horrible execution and lacking script that is the big problem.

It didn't even commit to a single idea which is the biggest issue.

Has there ever been other Best Picture nominee with a sequel disliked by audiences and critics?

The Exorcist was a  best picture nominee and the sequel panned and a big flop.

About Friedklin too the french connection won Best picture and the second was a flop (but critics kinda like It).

Chinatown won Best picture and second One was disliked and a flop.

All of these btw the director of the second movie was different (and i would Say also the screenwriter). While joker 2 is all made by the same author.

In addition to the ones already mentioned, Terms of Endearment (a Best Picture winner!) spawned a sequel 13 years later (The Evening Star) that was an epic critical and commercial flop.
