Spectacular numbers. The film will likely cap off at around $2.4b WW. Incredible performance considering it did not have Russia, Japan basically bombed, and Avatar's potential was likely cut by 60% in China. Should have hit $550m there at the very least. 

 

I still can't wrap my head around Japan. The first film was surely well liked at the very least, but was it because it released in a weekend where there were more anticipated releases? I feel like it could have done a lot better if it had been released in January.

I think Avatar didnt really connect deeply with americans as in other countries.

Like Avatar 1 is still the highest grossing film of all time in canada with nearly 100 million

 

and Avatar 2 has massively overperformed in Canada.

A2 is pulling off the second best multiplier ever for a movie that opened above $100M. Just saying

I think it's simply down to cultural differences. Sometimes some markets simply don't like a movie. Plain and simple.

If Japan doesn’t like Avatar itself then avatar 1 won’t make $170m in Japan

last tuesday OS was $8.1m but it was holiday in korea and in china 

 

those two collected $2.328m last tuesday vs $627k this tuesday

 

so rest of markets last tuesday were $5.772m vs $3.873m this tuesday (-33%) and there might have been some other holidays in asia with spring festival

If it had released in January it would've held IMAX screens for like 3 weeks and missed the holidays.

This is wrong. What you are looking at 1.405B Rubles is not just CIS but Russia included (667m Rubles there). So, CIS Gross is 738m Rubles. 

 

Total for CIS + Russia:  Gross - 1,405,338,824 Rubles  &   Admits - 3,672,776

Compared to Cheburashka, whose ATP is 306 Rubles vs.  Avatar's ATP is 386 Rubles ~
