The ones in bold add up to an exciting rest of the year for me.

I’ve never even heard of She Said, Fabelmans, Otto or Strange World but that’s the studios’ fault.

She Said and Strange World have had trailers out for a while. Fabelmans will likely begin its marketing campaign around the time it premieres at TIFF in a few weeks (Spielberg's dramas are typically late in starting their marketing campaigns, the trailers for Lincoln and The Post landed just two months or less before they opened if I remember correctly). Otto will probably start...I dunno. I'd like to say The Woman King but I'm sure Sony will be attaching Devotion and the first trailer for I Wanna Dance with Somebody before that given the demographic overlap.

I kind of understand not hearing about the other ones, even though Fabelmans is Spielberg, but you haven't heard of Strange World? It's a Disney animated movie.

I kinda expected this weekend to break out a bit (due to a confluence of social factors), but looks to be running ahead of even my optimism (should have stuck with my gut on DBS though)

However … also expecting it be short-lived though, with weekdays dropping down even more, next weekend returning to meh territory, Labor Day weekend doing its thing, then into the September slog. So enjoy it while it’s here

Looks like a solid Saturday all around, decent weekend for what’s in the market, but it may a the last (non-Labor Day) such weekend for a while

Just realized Universal is leading the market for 2022 with Paramount not too far behind them (largely thanks to Top Gun heh). Guessing the end of that reign isn't too far behind with Disney set to release arguably their two biggest bets of the year in the final months.

Remaining number of major releases this year from the majors:

Universal: 7 (Bros, Halloween Ends, Ticket to Paradise, The Fabelmans, She Said, Violent Night, Puss in Boots)

Sony: 6 (The Invitation, The Woman King, Lyle Lyle Crocodile, Devotion, A Man Called Otto, I Wanna Dance with Somebody)

Disney: 5 (Barbarian, Amsterdam, Black Panther, Strange World, Avatar)

Warner Bros: 3 (Don't Worry Darling, Black Adam, Shazam!)

Paramount: 2 (Smile, Babylon)

That's not even counting everything Focus has (Honk for Jesus, Silent Twins, Tar, Armageddon Time, Spoiler Alert). Uni is having an amazing year

You haven't heard of a Spielberg movie?

Honestly how can you be on a movie related site and has no awareness or knowledge of a new Spielberg film? It would be like checking ESPN but not knowing who LeBron was

Did not expect my showing of Beast last night to have quite a few young kids... Uni underestimated the 4 quad appeal :sparta:

They saw that realistic-looking lion in the commercials and thought it was a stealth sequel to The Lion King '19, obviously.

Are any of those Focus films going to make money, though? Focus flopped pretty hard with Vengeance last month. Ms Harris did.. ok.

TAR will get amazing reviews but it's still a highbrow film. James Gray has never had a box office hit. Honk For Jesus is a Labor Day dump simultaneously on Peacock. And Spoiler Alert has no buzz or awareness, not even playing TIFF

Over 20 for "Dragon Ball" and over 10 for "Beast".   I'm perfectly fine with these numbers for the End of the Summer.  Does anyone have "Dragon Ball" worldwide numbers?  It opened overseas in a few places too.    "Top Gun" is finally slowing down as he heads for home video but 700 is definitely looking just fine.    "Avatar 2" is probably going to win the year just off overseas numbers alone and "Wakanda Forever" is definitely going to make noise but I still feel "Top Gun" is the Box Office Story of 2022.

That's an insane hold.

I doubt it gets the Sunday -25% estimate, but overall think it’s just another data point showing how far along in the transition from summer patterns to Fall we’ve moved, with more business being squeezed into weekend. Weekdays will likely be weaker as a result
