I think y’all reading a little too much into signs that’re basically just aimed at being goofy.

Oh, we know that the signs are for fun.  Too bad they're likely going to be twisted by The Most into !gossip! in order to generate clicks due to the daily entertainment news grind slowing down as productions are now looking to hit pause.

I'll allow you guys to guess which former poster is having a major bootlicking anti-writer meltdown on Twitter this past week.

Just block him. We don't need to bring up that bully here anymore.

If the WGA can keep the strike going until June 30th, they can get the best terms since the studios will be completed screwed because that date is when DGA and SAG can start striking too. Complete Hollywood shutdown would be a nightmare for the studios and streamers!

The WGA will easily keep striking till the end of June — most of their strikes have been for longer — but the DGA never* strikes and it’s still a little unclear how united they’ll be.

A joint WGA/DGA/SAG would effectively shut down all scripted production, though, that’s true.

*technically they did once but it was only for a few hours.

Deadline claims the WGA strike caused the delay of Strays:

Quote

The WGA Strike is partly the reason for Strays‘ move; an original bawdy comedy like this requires all the late night TV talk show promotion it can get. Strays was about to start screening to the press and kick off a junket in the near future.

I suspect Jamie Foxx not being able to promote the film as he's recovering is the main reason.

How likely is a joint strike though? Hollywood can't really afford to be shutdown for months Covid being the exception, even weeks is pushing it.

A joint strike has never happened. “Hollywood” is such a vague term here, though, because it refers to so many disparate pieces. Yes, a long strike will hurt everyone.

The WGA strikes have routinely gone 3-4 months and more, which does significantly affect production (granted, not a full shutdown).

It’s maybe worth pointing out that there’s likely some internal conflict in the AMPTP too — companies like Apple and Amazon can ride out a strike if they wanted to (since they’re not wholly entertainment companies), whereas the traditional studios and networks (and even Netflix) can’t.
