Your Barbenheimer weekend plans

  1. 1. What are you going to watch this weekend specifically?

This worked out perfectly for Nolan. It probably would have opened 50m, maybe 60m without Barbenheimer. Just overall fantastic weekend and the top 3 films all have 90s RT and A cinemascore. Don't forget SoF and ELEMENTAL and INSIDIOUS is silently carving out a helluva tally as well.

Yep. Even with Barbenheimer, it's still hanging in there.

I think with this hold it’s pretty much guaranteed to play well right through labour day weekend, unless Disney does something stupid and releases it on Disney+ mid August or something. Next weekend it should benefit from some double features with Haunted Mansion, and TMNT is older skewing I believe. There is really nothing else out there for the family audience with children from 5-10 years old. We saw how far PIB legged it out, I don’t see why Elemental can’t do the same with weeks of summer weekdays still ahead.

and Disney often expands it’s summer blockbusters for a last hurrah on labour day weekend. So again, if it’s not on Disney + by then, it will likely do the same and add a few more million.

I still think 180+ is a good possibility.

Insane after that low opening.

Dial Of Destiny is holding pretty well too. Domestically it could beat MI 7. WW it will still lose. Crazy how this stuff turns out.

The Barbenheimer meme is HUGE in my friend circle and we are all 20-24 years old. I'm convinced the meme added $30m+ to each films OW, probably means shorter legs though.

Barbieheimer and SOF, all three movies that basically overperform thanks to grass root campaign. At the Oscar, the grass root campaign worked too to send Andrea Riseborough a nomination. We are truly witnessing some GameStop scale event that take place at the cinema landscape. Grass root campaign is booming. Something that studio should take note of. It is unknown territory but is not without opportunities.

Can someone explain this media fixation with the sex scenes in Oppenheimer? They would have made people yawn in the 90s, but now they’re accompanied by so much handwringing.

has the last decade of sexless cinema messed people up?

It's more because Nolan hasn't made an R-rated movie in over 20 years and he has such an image of buttoned up formality, people just didn't think he was the type to throw in sex scenes. He's not Tarantino. The Oppenheimer rating news itself dropped pretty late and was unexpected, especially the R not being for "grisly images" or the like, but sex. Some people like their World War II movies violent but also prim, apparently.

Plus, the IMAX factor: some let their imaginations get carried away and thought they'd be seeing full frontal in glorious 70mm. A reporter who interviewed Murphy (but hadn't seen Oppenheimer yet) wrote about the movie having "prolonged full nudity" between Cillian and Florence. The big aggregator accounts on Twitter picked up the quote and the speculation really went into overdrive.

Also, outrage/controversy about TV/movie sex scenes in general is a big talking point on Twitter in the last year or two. Every other week it seems someone goes viral for not wanting to see onscreen kissing let alone anything more. The "if I wanted to see that, I'd watch porn!" types are very loud online.

Probably closer to 4 years, and before that it was a common thought/discussion on tumblr. It just moved to twitter after all those tumblr people moved there when tumblr banned porn.

God, sometimes seeing people who don’t follow box office try to report on box office is awful.

Already seeing tiktoks “Christopher Nolan can’t catch a break, with the biggest bomb of his career. Barbie opened to 70 million in a single day, and Oppenheimer could only manage 10.5”

Please tell me you're making this up. This is actually one of the dumbest things I've ever read in my life if it's actually true LOL

Paramount is in trouble. They’ve worked to kill off the Mission Impossible franchise and Transformers doesn’t make enough to cover their budgets. What do they have  now?
