I am impressed with Quiet Place. Better walkups than Bad Boys so far (Not Miami, just the greater Orlando-Tampa area)

Comp at $6.36M and is sill rising!

I wouldn't be surprised if Quiet Place is more appealing for women than Bad Boys (whose amount of female audience wasn't small in itself). Maybe that could be increasing the walkups.

Horizon walkups are ATROCIOUS tonight. Not expecting the weekend number to be very pretty. Shame because I like Costner’s work. Fully expecting Part 2 to get released in sub-2000 theaters.

Quiet Place still going very strong. Expecting around 6.5 previews same as everyone else.

Is it opening immediately like for July flicks or is that yet to be decided. Also will it still use the Drafthouse brand or not?

From IndieWire:

Quote

After 6 different Alamo Drafthouse locations closed due to the franchise company responsible for them declaring bankruptcy, all those theaters are reopening now under the ownership of the main Alamo Drafthouse brand.

The six theaters, including one in Minnesota and the other five all in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, closed immediately at the start of June when franchisee Two Is One, One Is None, LLC, declared Chapter 7 bankruptcy, forcing 600 employees to lose their jobs. Now weeks later, Alamo is buying back those locations and plans to reopen each of them in rapid succession.

Not coincidentally, Sony Pictures Entertainment in a landmark move bought Alamo Drafthouse and had been looking to expand, and clearly the company’s new ownership allowed for some greater financial flexibility to do just that and buy back up the shuttered theaters.

“We were heartbroken to hear about the franchisee’s decision to close their locations in Dallas-Fort Worth and Woodbury, MN, but we immediately got to work to acquire these as Alamo Drafthouse-owned locations,” said Alamo Drafthouse CEO Michael Kustermann. “We’re so excited to reestablish Alamo Drafthouse Cinema for our teammates and local film communities in these great cities during an incredibly successful summer of moviegoing.”

Alamo will also offer those fired the first crack at interviews for open positions, and those who are rehired will get a more robust benefits plan with immediate eligibility, including access to daily pay, substantial 401k match, paid medical leave, accrued PTO, and free mental health services.

Alamo Drafthouse will host a soft opening during the first week of each location’s reopening with promotions and discounts to be announced. Any patrons who had pre-purchased tickets to movies opening this month and missed out will now get free ticket vouchers, and those who already bought merch like a “Deadpool & Wolverine” pint glass or an “Inside Out 2” lunchbox will now get these items upon reopening.

The Sony acquisition of Alamo came as a major shock around the industry, with a film studio now directly owning a small but major theater chain in America. The move had its precedent even prior to the Paramount Decrees being rescinded, but theater ownership from studios has previously been done on a very small scale. Sony on the other hand has opened the operation of Alamo within a new division at SPE.

What Sony intends to do with Alamo is still anyone’s guess, with the possibility that some of Sony’s anime movies from Crunchyroll could get more play there. More likely though, IndieWire recently posited that it could be a lab to test out innovative theater ideas.

No timetable aside from "rapid succession".

Is commentary about prioritizing old staff (if they want it) for hiring, but even so that still takes some time to do.

MTC1 Previews Final

A Quiet Place: Day One - 127347/589286 2313644.34 3080 shows +59351

Horizon Chapter 1 - 12136/118120 142227.70 1141 shows +4542

Even a 35% ratio takes it to 6.6m. I think walkups should be robust at other MTC as well. So I am going to go bold and predict 7m previews for Day One.

Horizon on the other hand needs 14% ratio to hit 1m. Thinking 900Kish for now. MTC2 is similar to MTC1 in gross and I expect MTC3 to be similar as well. Stronger numbers from small chain should get it there. It has just bombed at MTC1 for sure.

Finally fell behind The Bikeriders. Should still clear $1M imo, but at this point, that above comp number is looking to be the likely best-case scenario for this film.

Horizon: An American Saga - Chapter 1 (Thursday Night Outlook)

Cinemark Davenport 18 + IMAX

Horizon should cross 20m with previews. Probably needs 22m to keep 60m in play. I wont rule it out.

Horizon is just outright bombing over here. Let us see how heartland does it take it to low double digits.

That moment when you wake up on Saturday morning and you see Horizon: An American Saga (a movie that should do just barely more than $10M this weekend) do about $20M on Friday. Lol!
